FEELING BLUE, CLOTHING, THAT IS

This week I will be posting quite a few outfits where you will see how much I love the color blue. I love every shade of it, from dark inky navy to medium royal to baby pastel blue. Tomorrow’s outfit features blue plus pink for a Valentine’s look and be sure to check out my post about “How I Wear My: Blue” on Wednesday - plus a #TBT blue outfit. 

Also, you all know how much I enjoy remixing and wearing things in different ways. So today’s outfit looks a lot like one I have repeated several times except for the new-to-me Theory jacket I have on. I found it last week at the new Rags Warehouse consignment in Boulder. I love the little pleats in back. And I added my black silk neck-tie that I bought on etsy that wrote about last week. I love how it easily transforms any outfit and brings it up to current style trends.

FRIDAY NIGHT LAYERS

On Monday, I showed you guys a simple layers option for Fall and on Wednesday I translated layers to a work look. 

Today I am wearing an outfit for my usual Friday errands and then movie night later. One of my tricks to balance the layers and not look too bulky is use thin layers - and use one big piece and one small. For example, here my top is thin and sleeveless but longer while the jacket is shorter but heavier.

FALL LAYERS - FOR WORK

On Monday, I wore some casual layers for running around town, but layers can mean business, too. Layers for work are always great because offices tend to be chilly but variable in temperature so it’s great to have a jacket to put on or take off. And the pinstriped pants are several years old but I love them for the office still.

Also, I have been doing lots of work and research and reading in the Sustainable Fashion realm and I must say: I am finding it fascinating! I will be sharing my journey with you all as I go along. And today I am re-reading Greta Eagan’s “Wear No Evil” so I thought I would share the title.

WHITE AFTER LABOR DAY

I am really into crisp white pieces with my layers this Fall. I like the way this white ruffle-y top pops against the darker heavier blanket sweater. And Monday I wore a creamy white top with a matching blazer. So I say “yes” to white after Labor Day!

SUMMER’S LAST HURRAH

Wearing shorts here for the end of Summer - it is starting to feel a lot like Fall around here so pretty soon I will be putting away many of my light dresses, shorts and cooler clothing and swapping out for more pants and layers. I am excited since I feel like I have a good collection of #madeinUSA snuggly jackets and sweaters that I worked hard to gather last year. But this week looks to be made for shorts!

SUMMER SHORTS, MADE IN USA

So I have mentioned that it has gotten pretty hot here already. How am I dealing with it? More shorts! I am not huge on shorts, especially short shorts, but I have to say I find myself wanting to wear them more and more this month. How do you wear shorts over 50? I mean, do people even wear shorts after 50? 

My answer is yes, but I have some rules for myself. I have specified before on the blog that for me shorts ideally are “not too short, not too tight, with pockets, of a lightweight fabric, and made in America.” This is not an easy ask and I only have a few pairs that fulfill the qualifications - I even sewed up a pair of cute print shorts a couple of years ago to have more options. 

And I try to stick to a 4-5″ inseam since I feel this works best for me, but I would suggest that if you are shopping for shorts for yourself, try different lengths as well as widths at the bottom. I definitely prefer a wide short - much like a skirt - as you can see here.

This is really good example of an outfit that works for me on a daily basis - I can change into a t-shirt and sneakers and go for a walk or do an easy workout and then get back into the outfit to continue what I call my “driving around” of running errands and driving my daughter to dance classes and then off to dinner. Win, win, win.
