RAF SIMONS® — S/S 2002.

#rafsimons A/W 2004 'Waves' Sculptural cargo blouson with pockets and interior 'shipwreck' patch. . A striking piece from one of Simons' most iconic 2000s moments, based on the classic mid-century Harrington jacket. The front is embellished with an irregular assortment of cargo pockets that creates an aggressively layered look. Irregularly placed buttons and an exaggerated wind flap further complicate the unusual design. The fabric is vintage cotton twill that is double layered throughout, giving a sculptural, almost cushioned feel to the garment. . The fully lined interior is adorned with a patch featuring an excerpt by Jose Ortega y Gasset from his 1932 essay 'In Search of Goethe from Within'. Raf Simons collaborator @peterdepotter explains the collection's conceptual basis: . 'The collection explores the idea of conscious confinement and wilful enclosure. Again starting with the concept of an imaginary community outside of regulated society, the whole of the collection evokes the feeling of enlightenment and personal enrichment one can find in extreme but self-chosen isolation. The collection references at random various drop-out cultures that are conceived as likeminded tribes but when examined closely, are in fact gatherings of individuals seeking self-fulfilment through lonely practice. Wave cultures, cultures of rave waves and ocean waves.
