unpopular opinion: godzilla is a dinosaur
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
i mean, the explanation for godzilla’s existence is atomic radiation subjected upon lizards (reptiles), which would explain the scales, and also being a super old creature
however theres the issue of their gills, and as far as im aware no dino has gills, which could also lead to them being an amphibian, AND being amphibious defines down to being adapted for both land and aquatic life, whether they can breathe underwater or not
that brings it back 2 his scales, and also claws and sharp teeth; most amphibians do not have these, but many reptiles that are also amphibious do (crocodilians, many kinds of snakes, some lizards, turtles)
crocodilians are large animals with long, lizard like bodies with short pairs of legs - also having a lizard type shape and long snouts and their hides are tough and scaly and their teeth are very sharp (sound familiar??)
both dinosaurs and crocodiles are considered archosaurs (dinosaurs, crocodiles, birds, pterosaurs are archosaurs), so godzilla must be closely related to a crocodilian more than a dinosaur, considering a crocodile and a dinosaur aren’t the same, only closely related
alongside godzilla possibly being a crocodilian, crocodiles also use less oxygen because they’re cold-blooded, since they do not have gills they are required to hold their breath when underwater and can do so for a very long time if necessary (up to 2 hours!!!!! the record time spent underwater is eight hours in freezing conditions, and this is bc crocodiles uses less energy and oxygen so it can hold its breath longer), which must mean godzilla could have been holding their snout above water or holding it for a short time when submerged instead of using their gills (but, that's not to say godzilla isn't, they are a mutation so there's no reason to rule things out)
so is godzilla just not????using gills??? but who knows; i personally think crocodilian (if not using any specifics, definitely an amphibious reptile) but i GUESS you could count that as a dinosaur, because of their relativity and close body shapes and features lmao
