    I wonder how many people won't like that i reblogged my poem, and normally i wouldn't reblog my own poem, but the guy disrespected leelah (r.i.p.) and mike brown (r.i.p.) and all of the lgbta community, and i realize it was childish, but aw well, luckily he is the only one to put something like that on the poem, but if anyone else puts something else on it like that i will be reblogging it again. to be honest i wasn't sure what to put, and i thought putting what i did put would anger him and he couldn't really fight me back on it, so i put some childish things on there, so if anyone is offended feel free to send me an ask, also i will publish all anons i get no matter what they say and privately answer all people who aren't anon

hey this might be a weird question but im writing an lgbta book and im including sex, i have a few scenes where there is a hetero couple having sex and its seen by the main character and used is used to help her get rid of her feelings for the other girl, is that ok to be in a book? Also i have another scene where a girl basically forces a kiss on another girl and it leads to a sex scene a few pages later, is that something that could in a YA book? or not? sorry to be asking you this ^-^
I’m pretty sure that anything is “okay to be in a book” as long as it’s well-written. I’m not really sure what the guidelines are in YA, but they can be pretty intense. (Edit: Actually I remembered, my editor told me the only thing that makes something YA or not is the age of the main characters! A book can be about anything, but if the main characters are young, it's automatically YA. If I remember correctly.)
I’m not sure what you mean by “get rid of feelings for another girl” by watching hetero characters have sex… is it shown in context to be kind of creepy? That’s the vibe I’m getting here.Â
And be sure that you show that forcing kisses on people (or watching them have sex) without their consent is wrong. Sex coming right after that seems a little iffy, I don’t know. Consent is incredibly important. Unless you’re writing an unhealthy relationship, and then, again, it’s important to acknowledge that it’s not a good one, or suggest it’s a good thing.

So here's the thing. There is no possible way for me to tell anyone if a sex scene is something we'd feel is appropriate for a book without reading the book. It really is dependent on how it affects the plot, how it affects the characterization, the actual language used, what else happens in the book, etc..
I can tell you that based on what you've said here, both of these make me wary. The first one doesn't seem like something where the sex needs to be played out in the book beyond maybe a snippet. That scene sounds like it's something that should focus on the girl who is watching and her reactions and we don't actually need details about what the couple is doing. The second one makes me think there may be consent issues and we don't publish rape. (If the story deals with sexual assault, it can be referenced, but the actual assault needs to be implied or off-page.) However, I could be completely wrong and both of them could be fine. There is no possible way for me to know without reading the manuscript.
If a story is otherwise fantastic but has sex in it that we feel is inappropriate, we would not just reject the story. We'd likely send either a revise and resubmit asking for the sex scenes to be edited or offer the contract after making it clear that we would be changing or cutting the sex scenes during editing.
If you feel a sex scene is important to the story (meaning the plot or the characterization), then write it. But think about what it's adding to the story and make sure that the language you use lets it actually add that and doesn't cross over the line to titillation.
would you publish something like say if it was posted on tumblr before it was even really finished, would you still publish it if it fit your guidelines or not? (i'm writing a lesbian love story solely using tumblr and i'm going to transfer it to a word document when the story is finally laid out and everything and edit it there. So the story will be slightly different and far more up to date then the one published on tumblr)
The issue there is that we'd require the story to be taken down before you submitted it and that could be complicated for you if it's posted on Tumblr.
At the moment, though, we do accept previously published works. You need to let us know it's been published elsewhere, have removed it from publication, and have the full rights back (assuming they were contracted). Also, that could change at any time. Our parent company no longer accepts previously published works.
