Hey, sorry if this is too personal, but: How do you feel about your Greek "going to shit"? I was a classics major who also studied Greek and Latin. Now I teach history and English and it's been a while since I've looked at Greek or Latin and I sometimes I feel so ashamed that I studied these languages for years and now can barely read them and I don't know what to do with these feelings.
eh. for me it’s more of like...well, this was inevitably going to happen. i sort of fell into my greek minor by accident. i kept taking the courses because i liked them, and i liked the material, but i was never very good at greek. i could translate on a technical level, but it was not a language that i vibed with in the same way i do with latin.
i do sometimes feel disappointed that i can no longer read marcus aurelius or sappho the way i used to, but i always kind of knew that i wasn’t going to keep up with greek.
more concerning to me is the fact that my latin paradigms are starting to slip a little bit. i think i would struggle to do a full verb synopsis at this point without having to really think about it- i just don’t teach things like the passive or the subjunctive. but i can still read latin perfectly well, so for the time being i’m content with that lol
