Fic Rec Friday!
So I hope that you all know to exercise caution when experimenting with um. Unfamiliar toys, of the sexual variety? Always use plugs with a flared base or vibrators with means of retrieval, test sizing, use quick release knots or otherwise know how to untie someone easily? This fic may convince you to take care, if you donât already!
Eppur si muove by @quirkysubject is all about one of those situations which is utterly hilarious in hindsight, but um. PAINFULLY embarrassing in the moment. Itâs still gen! But absolutely mature âŚand genuinely funny.
~7,000 words, Freddie&Roger friendship, descriptive about *ahem* the situation.
Hi, hope you have a lovely celebration! đ I recently read an interview Brian gave to a Japanese magazine in 75, in which he talked a bit about going to an all boys school, and how he had no idea how to talk to girls, and actually was a bit scared of them until he was about eighteen and went to uni. Care to speculate a bit on what his first date might have been like? Or, like just any thoughts related to that?
Ohh yes, I love hearing him talk about what he used to be like at school. He seems to have been quite the late bloomer. If it werenât for a comment he made on his Desert Island Discs episode, where he spoke about heartbreak he went through concerning the girl he thought he would marry âsince the age of sixteenâ, I wouldâve thought he didnât go on any dates at school and wouldâve only started really doing that at uni. I mean, just read this bit from this piece for the Big Issue called âLetter to My Younger Selfâ:
âI would tell my 16-year-old self to be brave. Believe in yourself even when everyoneâs telling you that you arenât capable. A lot of people dent you when youâre growing up and that can take a long time to get over. I was very shy, completely lacking in confidence. I didnât have a good feeling about the way I looked, very tall and thin and gangly. I felt I stood out so I walked with a stoop.
I went to an all-boysâ school, which I think is a terrible idea. To separate boys from girls at that time in their lives â it scars them forever, and leaves them lacking in the skills they need to make contact with the opposite sex. I think one of the reasons I became a rock musician was because of that. I remember going to a dance and a local rock band were playing. Some boys were asking girls to dance but I didnât know where to start and I was far too shy to consider it. I thought to myself, if I was on stage I wouldnât have to worry about any of this. I would just be away up there, being fabulous, and maybe girls would come to me.â
Whatever his first date was like, Iâd say it was probably sweet and a bit awkward, like Brian himself at that age.

27 and 45 for the Queen asks đ
Thanks for the ask đ
27. Whose fashion style do you want to emulate the most?
I would say Brian in the 80s. It's the right balance of being eccentric, casual, comfortable and sophisticated for me. I love his 80s jackets, especially the leather ones, and I love the "silhouette" they make. I love bell bottoms, so does he apparently. But if Iâm feeling bolder and something more eccentric, Roger in the 70s (do I dare though?)
45. Desert Island Discs time: youâre stranded on a desert island and only get 10 Queen songs to listen to, which do you pick?
Ahhh this is so hard, there are too many songs that I absolutely love. These are the ones that I particularly enjoy listening to no matter my mood and that are good songs to listen to when I inevitably sulk.
I Want To Break Free, Rock It (Prime Jive), Hammer To Fall, I Want It All (Single Version), A Kind Of Magic (Live) (lol is that cheating?), Somebody To Love, Long Away, Don't Stop Me Now, '39, Breakthru

Hey!!! Thank you so much for the ask, I really appreciate it!!! I hope youâre having a rockinâ night! <3

The cover: I love it! I think it fits with the vibe of the album really well and itâs so different from Queen I + II!
Random aside, but the way I have my vinyl stored the right edge of the covers stick out. I had SHA on the end so I looked over one night and itâs just like Roger looking directly at the camera skskksksk!
Favourite song: I wish I could say all of them!!! Based on what I listen to most often though, Iâd have to say Flick of the Wrist, Tenement Funster or Dear Friends.
Least favourite song: I donât dislike it but I listen to Misfire the least! Itâs still a bop tho!
Underrated track: Bring Back that Leroy Brown!! I think itâs very different from the rest of the album! I LOVEEEEE the third verse! great song through and through!
Overrated track: I really donât know, I just think SHA is a little underrated as a whole so itâs hard to pick one! Maybe, maybe, if you squint in a really well-lit room, Killer Queen (yeah I know itâs the single so obviously itâs more popular) or She Makes Me.
And I will give a colour that I associate with that album: Orange! (something like Pantone 1505C or 1525C)

Much Love, Good Vibes! đđ
send me a Queen album!
11, 31 and 40!
11. Fave drum fill?
Ohhhh nooooooo, Quirky! What a question. I donât know. I mean how can you choose when he weaves his drums in and out seamlessly all the time? I donât want to cop out though and not give an answer so.... even though Iâm still not sure if I like the song, Iâll say Tie Your Mother Down. Cos BOY do those drums hit.
30. Deac/k/q/x/y?
Deaky and Deacy. Iâll write Deaky on tumblr and, when I can remember, Iâll write Deacy in fic where Brian is the main POV narrative.
40. Is the âItâs a Hard Lifeâ music video valid?
đ is it VALID? Well, it exists, is that not valid enough?Â
Yes, it is, imo, because first of all, even though only Freddie liked it, they all worked damn hard on it anyway (they showed up AND they acted!!), and it tells a story... of a sort. It doesnât matter thatâs not really cohesive, it matters enough that they went through the effort to give us a flawless video anyway, with stage setting, costumes and a narrative. Some bands put together clips of them using public spaces for free, in their own tatty clothes, and call it a music video.Pffft!
From the Queen asks.
Froger + the first big paycheck
Perhaps there were more logical things to have put the money towards (like their electric bill), but Freddie had never been very logical where Roger was concerned and the look on his face when he got home would be well worth the price.
