[Quick Impressions] The Hymn of Death and Uncontrollably Fond
I just finished off these two dramas, and both of them were mentally exhausting and so sad in its own ways.Â
The Hymn of Death (2018)
Synopsis: A 3 episode series, this is based on a real life love story between Korea’s first soprano singer, Yun Sim Deok, and writer/playwright, Kim Woo Jin.
Quick Impression: I was impressed by the high production involved in this drama, from the costumes and sets to camera and framing directions. The Hymn of Death was filmed beautifully, aided by a great looking actor and actress. If I hadn’t fallen in love with the story then how the drama looked on screen would’ve been enough to draw me in. As much as I wished it was longer, 3 episodes was also enough for me to understand the plot and kept it impactful.
Uncontrollably Fond (2016)
Synopsis: Shin Joon Young and No Eul were classmates before both were pulled in different directions due to personal circumstances. When they reunite, Joon Young is a famous actor and Eul is a freelance PD who is only concerned with money and materialistic items. Their lives are entangled again but there isn’t any way of knowing whether it is for the best or not.
I remember trying to watch this when it first came out but I’m not sure why I stopped after 4-5 episodes. I think it might be because the episodes were coming out weekly and I got frustrated at waiting (lol) but here I am again willing to dive back into the drama and did not regret it at all. It’s sad, so so sad, but produced in such a moving way. It’s one of those dramas that I think will stay with you even after a long time, and that really came down to Kim Woo Bin’s acting. I cried a ton.
