man, they weren't lying, that unearth really was unreal
i don't know how to tell him i like him, but I did kidnap him, lavish him with praise and promise to make him the king of england. so i think he gets it
norrel: i want this man dead. i will single handedly revive defunct laws so that i may have the pleasure of seeing him hang
strange:...so, what if we stopped knowing each other? as a joke
when i think about shows that have queerbaited audiences, i have a pretty difficult time slotting merlin into them, even though it came out at a similar time (or just had a lot of online overlap) with the most common examples of queerbaiting
like there is very clearly something between arthur and merlin, i don't think most people would deny that, but unlike other shows that tried to circumnavigate that by introducing a random love interest that was never mentioned, the show had gwen
a character who is very much part of the main cast, who is very important to both merlin and arthur and very much exists in universe as more than a love interest. she's a character we like, and it makes sense for arthur to fall in love with her (who wouldn't). shes not a one episode plotline to prove a character isn't gay, shes is treated with care and importance and depth that many other shows from the time did not offer the love interests

sometimes, i remember that julian was almost a theatre-kid, and everything suddenly makes sense
after experiencing the mildest inconvenience
i love the found family trope dearly, but you know what should also get some attention? incredibly queercoded, incredibly codependant, probably toxic, obsessive friendships where the characters are so deeply entwined with each other and completely antagonist towards outsiders (and probably each other)
