gero still traumatized from nasu's threat to force him into a harem with the six prospective brides in his life so when kimie and ushio invite him to their polycule he panics and tells them No! No you don't have to do this to yourself just for me! I'm not worth sacrificing your freedom and agency! only for them to be confused because the primary reason they were doing a polycule was so they could kiss himekawa at the same time and maybe kinosaki too. and the gears turn slowly in gero's head until he realizes that polyamory is a thing

all of the pictures are from dates kinosaki was either physically present or had view of virtually, he is the one who took those pictures. that why kimie has one when its plot relevant that the drone user and nasu couldnt get near her

going by character and their arc in order

himekawa: doesnt jump to gero to help him in his fight against ushio, maybe bc she didnt think he'd need help or maybe she didnt want to put herself in harm's way, he still finds a way to win but learns that perhaps empathy really is just a scam to boost people's egos. they still go out together later but gero cant find it in himself to ask about her life, he never asks her to be friends

ureshino: doesnt forgive her aunt nor naruko after everything, her uncle sides with her, they either fire the aunt or quit themselves to start a new company just the two of them. gero's worldview isnt questioned, he continues to believe the world its rotten and it has rotten people who will do harm and cannot be redeemed. he keeps in touch with ureshino tho, they got along well enough

arashiyama: doesnt have an arc, instead in that first time gero saved her, she idolizes him as the skilled assassin that he is, which she then aspires to and gets to eventually be one of the best private assassin + hunter in the specialist space, she never crosses paths with gero again bc shes too busy with her job and with locating her brother. gero never learns about trust and leading on others for help

akakura: gero's message of "you're pretty strong as you are" to erina doesnt stick, she doesnt confront the mafia guy and akakura isnt fast enough to safe her, erina unfortunately dies, so akakura gives up on being a protector now feeling like a failure. gero doesnt believe in strong close bonds anymore, specially familial ones, and doesnt care about protecting the ones he loves, he probably wouldnt be able to anyways, he doesnt even love anyone anyways. he doesnt bother showing up to erina's funeral, akakura is never seen again

himi: she doesnt explicitly rejects the "ex fiance", instead she says "maybe if we knew each other better.. im open to give you a second chance". gero feels like he put himself on the line for nothing, feels used, learns he'll probably have the same fate as himi, he'd probably learn to love whoever candidate his grandma wouldve introduced him to, but would never be himself with her. he leaves without saying goodbye

ushio: she actually kills her father, and takes his role as head leader as revenge. gero thinks even if he did try to go against his grandma, he'll probably still end up a head leader of the clan, which wouldnt be too much different from what was already decided for this life and destiny by his lineage. reluctantly he stays amicable to ushio, just for political reasons, he feels too depressed next to her now

i focused more on his relationships with each girl but obviously it'd be a lot different, some of them he wouldnt even meet at all bc the message with the previous one was screwed already

how they would use buildings for killing stuff? idk i imagine them being "carnival organizers" as a cover up to them going around building haunted and mirror houses to either drive the victim crazy enough to die without further infliction or to get the victim alone in a secluded place so they can kill in a more "common" way like with a gun, something like that. and the reason they're so secretive about their specialty is bc is just so specific those who know would just avoid completely possible traps or bc "that ruins the fun part of it (following the carnival example)"

where himi is the first potential partner and the way they meet her is she actually DMs kinosaki on instagram looking to hire him for the fake boyfriend role, but as kinosaki looks further into himi's profile he concludes that with a makeover gero would fit better with her vibe, so he sends gero in his place. then the arc follows close to canon with some details changed obvs like no mention of ureshino bc gero hasnt met her yet, himi still doesnt fully trust gero bc this time he really is a complete stranger and bc shes the first one its really obvious gero does not know how to interact with women, oh yeah naruko hasnt appeared yet so its kinosaki who gets gero to relax so he can fight ghost user

i know this is on me but i keep forgetting that ghost user is supposed to be from a top5 clan, i think he'd be a lot more memorable if he was introduced before the, even if small, info we have on the top5, in the rewrite maybe have gero going "wait, a ghost user? never heard of one before.. could he be [insert top5 clan name here] whose specialty is kept secret?!" i know i wouldnt forget a line like that.

they would still go to naruko's show by the end of the arc (which could be perfect foreshadow to naruko being the sound user later) this time shes upfront about having a second ticket, that was supposed to be for kinosaki initially for a fake date, and takes gero out as a "thank you". theres no call to ureshino nor a confession, but they do genuinely have a good time and add each other's numbers

the takeaway from this arc is that gero learns about being true to himself, is inspired by himi when they've gone thru the same thing and that he could either make the best of the situation or to put his foot down like her, he concludes he'll give a try first, this is what makes him actually want to continue the marriage quest

next arc is himekawa, goes like canon with the only real difference that shes not the first but gero is still just as nervous

then ureshino arc, himi is who comes to gero begging him to protect shiori. differences here is that gero recognizes naruko at first but doesnt think much about it, and the scene where gero is reassuring ureshino instead of "your uncle hired me so that shows he cares for you" he says "himi came begging me to keep you safe, you are more cared for than you know"

then goes arashiyama, akakura and finally ushio, all arcs as canon, but now symbolically ushio closes the door opened by himi, where gero understands he doesnt regret his decision on continuing to make the best of the situation and now has the knowledge that if someone gets in his way trying to make it harder he can in fact throw punches even if its his grandma
