I have a question about Chinese cultural norms. So I know the queer elements in The Untamed are censored to some degree, which can make it difficult for me to tell if something is a queer element that got past censors, or if it isn't considered a queer action/statement in China the way it is in the United States.
This is regarding the scene in the eighth episode, when Wei Wuxian, Lan Zhan, and Nie Huaisang are standing in the village while flowers are falling around them, and Nie Huaisang stares at Lan Zhan and gushes about how gorgeous he is. I've seen three different translations of his words, but they all amount to him saying that Lan Zahn is beautiful. My question is: is that an acceptable and/or common thing for straight men to do in China? Because in my thirty years in the US, I've never once seen a straight man do that, and I live in a fairly liberal city. So do men in China regularly admire other men and talk about how attractive they are, or is that a gay moment that got past Chinese censors? Thanks in advance!
(Also I'm only on episode 23, so please no spoilers in your answer)
