A Conservative-populated Supreme Court ruled to protect queer people from discrimination in the workplace.

It’s not exactly a secret these days that queer people in the US are under attack. With the barrage of anti-trans bills coming over the last few years and the right going after gay marriage, things are pretty dire.

The US Supreme Court has been formally asked to overturn gay marriage, and this is a big concern. It took decades before gay marriage was finally legalized in the US, and now, in just over a decade, we’re seeing that potentially get undone. This isn’t shocking or surprising. In the wake of Roe v Wade being overturned, conservatives such as Ted Cruz have been calling for the overturning gay marriage, obviously something Project 2025 pushed for.

As you would expect, this recent news has gotten a lot of queer people and people on the left worried. If the Supreme Court decides to overturn gay marriage, this would mean a lot of problems for gay people, especially those who are married and living in red states. Something I think is a bit strange is that people on the right are saying that the Supreme Court overturning gay marriage would only lead to gay marriage being illegal in red states, and that those in blue states wouldn’t have to worry.

This is pretty silly to put it mildly. For one thing, gay/queer people in red states deserve to have their rights protected, and they shouldn’t be subject to persecution or discrimination. One of my favourite sayings is that a threat to justice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and I think that’s really important in conversations like this.
