Kh voltron au???? Ummm I need to know EVERYTHING please
I'm so sorry this is like a week late *drops a stack of paper on the table* but I'M SO GLAD YOU ASKED
this started out with me thinking of lion assignments and ended with me accidentally creating a whole ass au so buckle up
Sora: yellow paladin OF COURSE. garrison fighter pilot cadet à la lance, very enthusiastic, crashes into stuff often (he suspects that's why they assigned him the most armoured lion). Vocally wants to be the head of voltron but grows to love his support role with time -- until there's a shake-up in the team composition, but he'll keep fighting in a new role because the universe needs saving, darn it
Riku: black paladin (.............for now...). Garrison comms officer. He's also a strong contender for yellow paladin imo but I read him overall as a better leader -- you know his team would follow him into hell and him passing the mark of mastery exam in canon lends itself to a leadership role here. Him getting norted in KH canon may also pop up later as another VLD plot point involving a black paladin.... make of that what you will.
Kairi: red goes to Kairi. I'll be straight with y'all: I love my girl and I feel like she gets shorted in KH canon. Her being a pink-marked Altean princess who pilots the red lion feels so right to me -- I feel like she has a temper in canon that doesn't get as much attention and she totally has the potential to kick ass and take names. I don't know if she'd be the red paladin initially or not, but that's definitely her role by the end.
Namine: shy garrison engineer who's case of self-doubt pairs nicely with her 'oh my God how did I get teamed with a comms spec who's as dry as the desert sun and a pilot whose landings are about as gossamer as barbed wire' inner thoughts. basically falls into blue's cockpit despite not being a pilot and manages to be the first paladin to take out a galra cruiser, though, so blue knows what's up -- the girl just needs some help lmao . Engineer because she's adept at disassembling and reassembling things, y'know?
Roxas: I REALLY struggled with his assignment but settled on green paladin. Aesthetically it's not his colour but I feel like he's more likely to get suspicious about this whole thing, or want to know what's going on behind the scenes (he might end up being the guy in the desert shack, you never know) which is a definitive green paladin quality.
I've also considered having lion swaps be a more prominent thing in this au? Like this I could see as the initial voltron crew but eventually the cast expands and they realize 'hey we'd probably be more powerful if we had more than one pilot for each lion" so at some point we also get green paladin goofy and red paladin Donald, and beyond that the BBS crew and maybe xion (I also haven't played the spinoffs so y'know... role wise idk with these guys). I also just can't unsee red paladin Donald gunning for alien emperor Xehanort out of pure rage
