𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐀 𝐀𝐋𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐒 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐙𝐎𝐘𝐀 𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐒𝐀𝐘. She'd heard the phrase from Nikolai over and over, every time she remotely mentioned impossible feats.
And while she knows Zoya's right, it's hard to believe in herself. She knows she's strong, she knows she surely has this power for a reason--right? But the Darkling has lived centuries, has created monstrosities and she's, what? A young mapmaker who barely knows a thing! Doesn't understand the strategy of wars, of ruling, of being this saint and savior the world has chosen to make her.
She doesn't want it.
But this is her burden, she guesses. Mal doesn't understand, and it bothers her that he doesn't. Like, her one best friend can't see as she used to be anymore. But just as a Grisha.
She's always been that, even if she hadn't truly realized it until now.
❝ Nikolai wants a savior. That isn't me-- ❞ she starts to argue, but shakes her head. Zoya didn't need to hear her doubts. Her fears. Her trepidations.
❝ Then why didn't Baghra stop him? She's older, wiser, has to be stronger--right? ❞ Except Alina knows part of the answer, at least.
No mother could ultimately kill her son. No matter what sort of monster the son had become.
Or maybe...
❝ Where is she anyway? Baghra? ❞
