Her Majesty Queen Victoria, HRH Queen Alexandra, HRH Queen Jacqueline, TRH The Duke and Duchess of Windshire and TRH Prince Arthur and the Duke of Northumberland travel through the streets of Alnwick back to the Palace. 

1 pm, King’s Counsel Meeting Room, Parliament Building

MP Reynold: Your Majesty, we have received your proposal and are ready to answer.

Thomas: And?

MP Trenton: We would like to ask a few more questions before we approve the request.

Thomas: Please, ask away.

MP West: Do you think that Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal is fit to be Queen of Winchester?

Thomas: I do. She is smart, she is sensitive to the people, and she is kind. She does not fear the limelight like my son Arthur.

MP Carlton: Your Majesty, I admit that I have intense reservations about this. You are asking this country to amend its constitution to better fit the needs of your son’s emotions. Do you have -

Thomas: - Mr. Carlton, I am asking this of this group of people because I know my son would be deeply unhappy as King of this country. Additionally, he has made it clear to both Her Royal Highness Queen Alexandra and I that he will not have children, placing the Princess Royal and her children directly in line anyway. We are simply skipping a step.

MP Reynold: Very well, Sir. We will bring the proposal before Parliament and we intend to see it through. You may make the announcement in two days’ time.

Thomas: Thank you, counsel.

Anna: Your Royal Highness, Dr. Everett has arrived.

Alexandra: Wonderful. Hello, Matthew.

Matthew: Your Royal Highness. You look lovely.

Alexandra: To what do I owe the pleasure? I saw you on my schedule and I assumed it was about the Arts Endowment Fund, but now I’m not so sure.

Matthew: No, ma’am. I actually came to discuss His Royal Highness the Crown Prince.

Alexandra: Oh please, Matthew, drop the pleasantries for god’s sake. You want to talk about Arthur?

Matthew: Yes.

Alexandra: What about him? Should my husband be here?

Matthew: No, I was actually hoping to speak with you privately. I’m worried about him.

Alexandra: What’s going on?

Matthew: He has been having these nightmares. He wakes up shaking, in a cold sweat, panicked. I’m not sure what do to about it.

Alexandra: You’re here because my adult son is having nightmares, is that right?

Matthew: It’s the subject of the nightmares that is the most worrying.

Alexandra: And what might that be?

Matthew: His nightmares… they’re about being king. He had one last week. He woke up shaking, and he told me it was the worst one he had ever had.

Alexandra: Do you know what this nightmare was about?

Matthew: [nods] It was his coronation. He told me we were both there, and Victoria and Henry and Minnie. He said he could see us in the church, dressed in white. And then he said he could see himself being crowned by the Archbishop on the altar. I can tell, from the very depths of his soul, that if he were King, it would kill him.

Alexandra: Oh dear. I see. And what would you have me do, Matthew, in an ideal world?

Matthew: Let him abdicate.
