Queen Min (October 19, 1851–October 8, 1895), also known as Empress Myeongseong, was an important figure in Korea's Joseon Dynasty. She was married to Gojong, the first ruler of the Korean Empire. Queen Min was highly involved in her husband's government; she was assassinated in 1895 after the Japanese determined that she was a threat to their control of the Korean Peninsula.
