Greetings from The Adversary!
Work in progress. Those two. I like them a lot. Bye!
Trish’s character reference sheet!! This one was trickier to draw than predicted, but than I had to pick a complicated action pose….
Who is Trish? Trish is a Qip (a primal goblin like species who mainly thrive in humid swamp and jungles) who ran away from her tribe in search of a better life.
What is Trish? Fiery, tomboyish, outgoing, easily excitable, body dysmorphia sufferer, impulsive, cocky
Trish’s kind possesses a primitive and divisive mind set leading to strict gender roles. The males being blood thirsty proud hunters and protecters while the females become foragers and crafters. Males possess brighter colors, claws, larger more studded crests, bigger fangs, eyes, ears, and tail barbs.
Well Trish was born as a female….mostly, she possesses a lot of the features found exclusively in the male species. She found that her behavior was the same way….a caring nurturing side especially for the native wildlife, but also the desire to fight and not passively let her village suffer unnecessarily from predators, starvation, and even foreign invaders.
Unable to prove herself to the tribe’s Chieftain, Trish felt like she didn’t even belong with her own and ran away.
Eventually running into the others. Trish has to learn how to love herself for who or what she is and not give into unnecessary labels and expectations.
While Trish was created to help capture other non humanoid races (for the sake of the Sci Fi theme and heavy DnD inspiration), she was also created to give some representation to the trans community mainly the dealings with body dysmorphia. I am considering making her nonbinary and/or an asexual. Might also just allow her to choose her female side while embracing the male features as part of what makes her well Trish!! Or both!! There will be a small bit on the pronoun “it”, and how Trish becomes hurt by some stranger calling her that. She also feels the strong need to make herself more “girly”and to fit in better with the upright bipeds.
A little bit about Trish’s species!! They are called Qips!! They are goblin like creatures who reside in peat bog/wetland/swampy areas with dense vegetation.
They are agile and strong moving between trees and rocks with ease. Clever hunters using parts of animals and plants to craft weapons and dye delicate hides and furs that they wear.
Females are smaller, less broad/shorter faces. They also have smaller lower canines/tusks, bigger eyes and slimmer tails. They also move around like cats and frogs. They are faster than males in that regard.
Males are larger, possess larger tusks, wider, shorter ears, shorter back legs and longer more muscular forearms with clawed fingers versus webbed. Their gait is more gorilla like where they can charge like a wild boar at another challenger. Their tails are also bulkier with stingers. They also come in less earthier/more vibrant colors. Their markings more lightning bolt like where females have more rippling water marks to help them camouflage better in water.
All in all females are built not to fight head on but hide and run to avoid predators when out foraging. They also have duller colors to help them blend with the natural surroundings and smaller crests with less secondary/tertiary colorations. They are better at night exploration with their bigger eyes that also have third transparent eyelids for swimming. The ends of their tails are flatter to help with climbing and underwater mobility.
Baby Qips are often referred to as mud babies because they are all born as brown as can be since mothers give live birth at ground level and it allows their coloration to mix in with the dirt before they can open their eyes and walk. They also cling onto the tails of their parents while asleep in order to feel safer. This behavior is common in even older Qips. They get their greens, pale blues, reds, lighter browns,…etc or a mixture of colors later on along with their full markings.
As Qips age, their hair greys and their markings disappear as their colors become less vibrant. Scars, clouded eyes, and all they take on roles as care takers for youngsters while parents are out. Typically females have the chances to age so much making themselves feel prettier with bone/scale jewelry as well as crushed fruit to paint their dull skin. Unfortunately it is traditional for Qips near death/too sick to voluntarily end their lives by making themselves look as obvious as possible attracting the attention of the native beasts who often end their lives quickly with a bite to the neck. This beats the slow more painful death they would face otherwise as muscles atrophy so much they can’t even lift the tips of their tails off the ground.
