@qglas brings up Flight of the Navigator and how sad it is about once every two months. I finally realized it isn’t a running joke because she went “I haven’t thought of Flight of the Navigator in years”. I think it’s some kind of of sleep response because I’m still talking to her and she’s telling me again about Awakenings and how it ruined the doctor’s career and it was sad. She has ADHD so she apparently never remembers these movie talks. We have been doing this for at least two years now.

Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?

Alexis Hall and Kate Clayborn are two new romance authors that I’m eagerly waiting for more works from. I also didn’t discover Becky Chambers this year but I did discover that I would die for her, which is very similar. 

Did you get into any new genres?

Thanks to Amelia, I read the first books of The Shadow Campaigns by Django Wexler, which are the first military fantasies I’ve ever read. The battle scenes in these books are genuinely so exciting and so well explained that I know hubristically believe I understand marching formation of the Napoleonic era but also with demons. Also, waaaaaaaaaaay more lesbian and full of Gender Stuff than you’d expect! Good! 

(so I guess I didn’t get into the genre as much as I got into Django Wexler...) 

What reading goals do you have for next year?

Me: I’m really liking audiobooks. I’m doing Needful Things at night now, I haven’t read it since high school.

Megan: I want, uh...the amulet thingy.

Me: I don’t remember—oh, Polly’s amulet?

Me: Yeah, that’s legit. I’m not sure what it would be for me. I always liked the idea of the fox tail.

Megan: Gimme the amulet.

Me: (internally) That’s a smart choice for the future, damn.

Me: I realized what it’d be, Detective Norris finds that Basun fishing rod that gives him the really strong sense of his late father. If Gaunt had something like that but for Mom...

Megan: Oh, yeah. I still want the amulet.

Me: Polly Chalmers’ amulet, right. (finally goes in on it) You don’t have arthritis, though?

Megan: What arthritis?

Me:

Megan: I don’t remember any arthritis.

Me: Polly’s horrible arthritis that the amulet heals the pain of?

Megan: Is THAT what it does?

Me: Polly has horrible arthritis pains! She can’t do anything in the book because she has awful gnarled claw hands! They’re installing Jitterbugs and shit because she can’t dial the phone! She has it worse than Roland, Megan! She’s the sympathetic one!

Megan: Oh, yeah, I don’t remember any of that. I just want the cursed amulet with the bug in it.

What are your go-to love songs? Uhmmmm. I don’t really have many? There are multiple songs that make me think of love. Oh. Like perfect by Ed Sheeran. That ALWAYS makes me think of love!
