#q character

Mum's binge-watching Star Trek: TNG right now as a distraction from the world's everything, and she is somewhere in S3, and this morning she reached the episode where Q lost all his powers for like a day and a half. And I realised how ironic it was that this particular episode was the first one I ever saw Q in, way back when I was about eleven. Mum and I have very different opinions of Q—I think he's excellent fun to watch, she finds him annoying—and she theorised this stemmed back to my introduction to Q being this episode, which I may remind you culminated in Q giving Data the experience of laughter. I think she might have a point there.

I find it really strange who my favorite characters of Star Trek: TNG are. Data: An android incapable of emotions (on the show before the chip he gets). Pure knowledge, facts, and logic. Deanna Troi: A half human, half Betazoid empath/telepath. Also very gorgeous. Q: An immortal, omnipotent being who creates chaos and sometimes maliciously plays with "lesser" mortal creatures. Guinan: Hundreds of years old, an excellent listener, able to perceive things at a subconscious level. Benevolent old crone trope type. Four diverse characters of such extreme polarities. Yet I love them all equally.
