the vision (2015) would have been so much more interesting & character compliant and creepy if king had used pymtron instead of vision, which actually would have made the narrative he was trying to tell make more sense, bc ultron ACTUALLY has always wanted to be human far more than vision ever did, n it would make sense after wearing his father's skin, claiming his identity & being deluded that he's the two of them n not just wearing a dead man's corpse, that he would go to suburban america (where hank lived a lot off avengers work) n build a family like he's done in the past with jocasta. vision doesn't make sense bc atp vision has narratively moved on n it isn't in vision's history or nature to build people to suit their own needs. that's always been Ultron. king's Vision series could have actually been... not good, but at least saying something cool with ultron, but with vision any narrative merit kind of falls through because it's so egregiously out of character for them
I need to clarify something for people about Jason Aaron’s Avengers run. This…
…is not character ruination. Jen has had periods where she’s been buffer and more savage (Her first Savage She-Hulk, Sensational She-Hulk #15, To Live and Die in L.A., the Search for She-Hulk), and this just seems like another one of those periods. And as Professor Thorgi pointed out a year ago, even though she’s talking in Hulk-speak, Jen’s sass is still there. Plus, with the She-Hulk Disney Plus show on the way, Jen’s probably gonna go back to being sensational to match up.
But you want to know what is character ruination? This;
This is Pymtron, Hank Pym and Ultron fused together. From all of his appearances, Hank Pym’s personality has been erased by Ultron, and we even saw Hank’s soul being tortured inside the Soul Gem. And as Pymtron, Hank has become a murderer on a galactic scale, and constantly torments his friends and loved ones. And has been this way since 2015. Hank is a supporting character in the MCU, so there’s no safety net for his proper return. And every writer that has ever written Pymtron since it’s conception do not seem to care about returning Hank Pym back into a hero.
Jen might not be her usual sensational self, but she’s still an Avenger. She’s still a hero who saves people and fights supervillains. Pymtron is a mass-murdering cyborg. My favorite superhero in all of comics has been turned into a supervillain, and not even a well-written or compelling one at that.
So, I’ll still be enjoying Jason Aaron’s Avengers run, enjoying the fact that the main book is actually enjoyable to read for the first time in almost a decade, and praying that someone fixes Hank Pym.
Some unpopular opinions that I’m posting just to get them out of my brain; I’m not going to fight anyone over this because it’s just my opinion, so please don’t message me to argue or start anything. I’ll just ignore or block you. Friendly discussions or questions are welcome of course.
Here goes:
The whole event idea is frankly stupid- enough with the hero vs hero events- but yes, I am petty enough that I hope the Eternals kick some X butt in Judgement Day. (And admittedly also indifferent enough to the X-Men as a whole that I don’t care. There are individual X-Men who I love, a lot, but as a group I personally find them overrated. It doesn’t help that their fans have a tendency to be... less than nice. More so than other groups of fans imo.)
While I’m on the subject:
1. I realize this is a very unpopular opinion, but I actually liked the plot/writing for the X-Men vs Inhumans event. Though I did only read the Inhumans side, so I can’t say how the X-Men side of it was.
2. The Eternals movie apparently might qualify for an Oscar and I hope it does get nominated and WIN, because it was fantastic, and I want all the people who say it’s bad to eat their words.
3. I miss the Inhumans. :( Marvel bring them back please. While we’re at it, can we also bring back poor Hank Pym? It’s been like 6 years and the poor man is still trapped in the Soul Stone/possessed by Ultron. Bring him back already!! Plus LET HIM MEET HIS DAUGHTER FFS.
