by Sheau Torng Lim
Red-shanked Douc Pygathrix nemaeus
A critically endangered monkey endemic to Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. This monkey communicates using facial expressions. It has a specific "play face" with the mouth open, teeth partially bared and chin thrust forward. A fixed stare is a threat display. They are a fairly peaceful species and agonistic behavior has been very rarely reported.
