October has always been my favorite month of the year. I love the fall, and how the leaves are changing, I love how the weather gets colder and I get to break out my favorite hoodie, but most of all I love Halloween and all things spooky! One other reason why October is so important to me is because it is domestic violence awareness month. I have friends and family that are DV survivors, and I have seen first hand the pain my loved ones have endure. I am not one to do the social cause of the month, but I can’t help but feel that it is my duty as a son/brother to help shed light on this issue if we ever hope to eradicate it! Day 20 of #CountdowntoMissLA2018 Introducing: Samantha Hawthorne, Miss Louisiana Tech University 2018 Platform: #PutTheNailInIt- Vow to End Domestic Violence School: Louisiana Tech University Hometown: Alexandria, Louisiana Talent: Contemporary dance to “Taking Chances” by Celine Dion Proudest accomplishment: Being crowned Miss Louisiana Tech University! Miss Tech 2016 was my very first time competing in the Miss America Organization and I knew after that first night that this was something I wanted to be a part of, but I knew I had to work for it. Over that next year I learned so much about myself and what it takes to be a part of this organization and represent your university and it is my proudest accomplishment to date! Fun Fact: I have a chihuahua named Kaylee and she’s basically a walking medical bill! The interesting part is that she suffers from a rare seizure disorder. She’s also very animated when it comes to her facial expressions! P.s- look for her and I in the Miss Louisiana ad book! Why I got involved with Miss LA: I saw this organization as an opportunity to push myself. I was never the most confident when it came to public speaking and I knew that by joining this organization I would be able to push past my comfort zones and become the best version of myself I could be! This organization is all about empowering ourselves, the ones around us, as well as every individual in our community! The Miss America and Miss Louisiana Organization also has a huge focus on platforms and philanthropies and that is something so special that really means a lot to me as well as those that we are speaking on behalf of and the issues we educate the community on!
