And not only did I say I would share a snippet that proved your point, I now get to share one of my all time favorite snippets.

“Shepard.” It comes out as a mumble, and the way Shepard’s fingers dig into his forearm before relaxing suggests he’s listening now. “Anderson said I keep you on your feet. Why would he say that?”

Shepard’s brow furrows. Instead of answer, he gets to his feet and pulls Kaidan back to his. “How about we get the icepick out of your head, and then talk about this.”

“No. If we talk about it now you’ll take pity and actually give me an answer.”

Shepard huffs, grips Kaidan’s arm and resumes course, footsteps slow and steady.

“I didn’t do anything to help you earn this,” Kaidan persists. “Why does he think I did?”

More silence. More steps. Each footfall ricochets off the deckplates, pricking at the base of Kaidan’s skull. Where the fuck is the airlock? It feels like they’ve been walking for hours.

“You’re stable ground,” Shepard says at last.

Stable ground. Maybe if his head wasn’t throbbing so hard he could figure out what the hell that means.

“You don’t…want anything from me,” Shepard continues. His voice is small, uncertain, as though now that he’s voiced the thought aloud he might find out it isn’t true.

It isn’t true.

1. It’s not something I write about overtly, but I love the gender-flip dynamic.  She’s the leader, she’s the stoic one who has problems with her temper, she has to make the tough decisions and gets battered at every turn, hell, she’s even taller than him.  In contrast Kaidan is the one who actively works on his mental health, is soft-spoken, has a kind, gentle, and curious soul, and knowing him pushes her to become a better person. 

2. It’s a mature relationship.  This isn’t their first time around the block.  They talk about things.  They work them out.  They understand and appreciate each other, and express mutual consideration, and they can have fun together.

Can I be an extra in one plz

I feel like the first month or so we were all good at video chatting and checking in but as the months stretch out it's been more difficult to maintain that. I haven't even been going out for walks that much so I'm missing human contact a lot!

Yeah, I honestly hated the video chatting and weekly meetings and such and now I’m just sitting here like a lump wishing I could force my brain forward. I just ... I can’t even.

A more serious answer is that I usually only need a couple of sentences to know if a writer's style is something I'm going to be into or not. It's not necessarily a single thing that will cause me to bounce off. I'm not ludicrously picky about how well written it is. If there is a good story underneath and the writing doesn't get in the way of it, rough edges don't bother me.
