Sukuna flips through some of the papers on his desk. “Who are you?”
“I’m Megumi Fushiguro. I recently graduated from-”
Sukuna sits up, frowning. “Don’t know and don’t care. Resume?”
Megumi hands him his resume. Sukuna skims over it and flings it back on his desk. He doesn’t even look directly at Megumi and focuses on reading his schedule for the week.
“What was your major?”
Megumi smoothly replied. “English. With an emphasis on journalism.” What the hell was this guy’s problem?
Sukuna sighs, exasperated. “Why are you here?”
“Because I think I could do a good job as your assistant and-”
“Why are you here?” Sukuna repeats, sounding more impatient. If Megumi wasn’t a better person, he probably would have socked this guy in the nuts.
But no, this was adult Megumi. Not middle school Megumi. “My resume got me a meeting with human resources and they said it was either this or Auto Universe.”
Sukuna hums under his breath, finally looking Megumi in the eye. “You don’t read ‘KAISEN’, do you?”
“No, sir.”
“And before today, you’ve never heard of me. Right?” Megumi nods.
Sukuna muses, “And you have no style or sense of fashion.”
Megumi doesn’t even bother replying back to that one. Sukuna picks up his resume again, slips on his reading glasses and properly reads over it.
“Editor in chief of the Daily Northwestern. Impressive.” Sukuna comments, dryly.
“I also won a national competition for college journalists with my series on the janitor’s union-” Megumi starts but is interrupted by Sukuna holding up his hand, dismissively.
“That’s all.”
Megumi trails off, “...that discovered the exploitation of the...” Sukuna gives him a look and he shuts up. Megumi turns around, scoffs quietly and heads to the door. Before leaving, he turns around with a frown.
“Look, I don’t know that much about fashion. But I’m smart. I learn fast and I work hard.” Sukuna looks up just as Megumi shuts the door.

Megumi groans, Nobara nudges his knee with her heels, slamming her beer down. “What the hell happened?”
He takes a sharp intake of air, “I told him I didn’t know who the hell he was and starting yapping like a crazy person...” He drags his palms across his face. “Oh my god.”
Yuji perks up, “When do you find out if you got it?”
Megumi deadpans him, “Did you not hear what I said? I’m definitely not getting it.”
Nobara picks up her glass of beer, “Honestly. You did fuck up.”
Yuji winces. “That’s harsh, Nobara.”
Nobara shrugs, “The last thing he needs to hear after that catastrophe are lies.” Nobara stretches her arms and leans into Megumi’s personal space. “But seriously. Sukuna is a big deal. A million people would kill for that job.”
“God, don't remind me.” Megumi mutters, “Besides, even if I don’t get it. It’s not the end of the world. I’ll be fine.”
“I don’t know...” Yuji starts, “You gotta start somewhere. And ‘KAISEN’ is a pretty big deal. Even Yuki reads it.”
Megumi’s left eye twitches, “So you’re telling me I blew my big break in journalism? Great.”

The first thing Megumi wakes up to is his phone blaring at 6:45 in the morning. He picks up his phone and answers the call.
A mere 6 minutes later, he’s up and running to the shower. After, he tears his closet apart looking for his best looking clothes. He chokes on his toast and hurries out of his apartment like a madman. Somehow, he got the job.
He steps off the elevator at ‘KAISEN’ looking disheveled and incomplete compared to his new coworkers. Somehow, someway, he had gotten the job. Kamo strides in, coffee in hand.
“I hope you know that this is a difficult job. If you fuck this up, my head is on the chopping block.” He says through gritted teeth then feigns a serene smile. “Ok?”
Megumi slowly nods. He does not like this guy. Kamo turns on his heels, power walking, and Megumi follows closely behind.
“This is Miwa from accessories. Miwa, this is Megumi.” Miwa gives him a small wave before Kamo snatches his by the collar, continuing to introduce him to the rest of the staff. The women were frighteningly good looking and the men were all polished and refined.
I look like a toddler compared to them, Megumi thinks grimly.
“Ah, and here’s the woman of the hour herself.” Kamo gestures to Y/N, who is currently focused on examining whatever is on her clipboard. When she notices Megumi, her expression stays neutral but the crinkle between her eyebrow smooths out. She extends a hand.
“Y/N L/N. Fashion Director. You must be the new Kamo.” Megumi hated that title. She scans him up and down and her gaze lands at his feet.
“What on earth are those?” Megumi looks down at his feet, they were just a pair of sneakers that Itadori bought him last year.
“Uh. My friend bought them.” He braces himself for even more verbal berating. She tilts her head, smiles, takes his hand and spins him around.
“Not bad. It could certainly be better but it’s like... if Oklahoma and New Jersey fell in love and had a baby.” She muses, letting go of his hand gently. She presses 2 kisses on both of his cheeks.
Y/N pats his his shoulder, “Welcome to hell, newbie.” And walks off to show the interns around.
He blinks slowly, processing what happened in the last few seconds. Does everyone just kiss people on the cheek around here, he thought incredulously.

Apparently, that was just a Y/N thing. Weird
Working at ‘KAISEN’ was interesting to say the least. Sukuna would dump his coat and car keys on Megumi’s desk and stride off to his office without a word. If Megumi even still had a speck of his middle school still installed in him, he would’ve chucked them both out the window and yelled ‘fuck you’ loud enough for the office to hear.
But again, he was adult Megumi and he really needed this job. So he sucked it up and hung his coat up. For the next few days, Megumi would have to do odd tasks for Sukuna. Buy his morning coffee, pick up dry cleaning, organize travel arrangements, take phone calls and buy gifts.
Yuji had called him a ‘saint’. Nobara called him ‘god’s stronger soldier’. Geto, Tsumiki, Mimiko and Nanako had all looked at him sympathetically and Gojo? Gojo had laughed his ass off.
During lunch one day, Megumi had staggered to the buffet and greedily loaded up his plate. (He had ran after a taxi holding 8 boxes of shoes less than a hour ago, he deserved to be a bit gluttonous). Y/N looked over at his plate and chuckled, his head whipped towards her.
“What is it?” He muttered, exasperated.
“Corn chowder. Interesting.” She observed, mirth in her eyes. Megumi looks at her confused and she resumes. “No, no. Great choice. It’s just that... I think cellulite is actually one of the ingredients of corn chowder.”
He frowned, “Isn’t corn a vegetable?” She smiles.
“You’re such a breath of fresh air.”
They take a seat and Megumi looks around. “So, no one here eats?”
She takes a bite of her salad, “Not since 2 became the new 4 and 0 became the new 2.” Megumi decides to ignore that and continues eating.

“Disgusting. This layout is supposed to be ‘The New Skirt’.” Sukuna turns away from the rack of skirts. “These are the oldest, most cliched and dragged out skirts on earth.”
Megumi walks in just as Sukuna is berating his editors. He sets Sukuna’s coffee down and watches from the side.
“We need to start over.” Sukuna shoves the rack away and turns to Megumi, “Sit down, Megumi. I need you to take notes on all these changes.” Megumi takes out a notebook.
An editor holds up 2 belts from the rack. “They’re both so different.” One comments. Another adds, “Sukuna, what do you think?” They’re interrupted by Megumi’s snicker. All 10 heads turn to him, including Sukuna’s.
“What is so funny?” Sukuna grits through his teeth. Megumi freezes up and clears his throat.
“It’s nothing. They just, uh, look the same.” The silence is deafening. “I’m just... uh, still learning about this stuff.”
“‘This stuff?’” Sukuna enunciates each word slowly. “Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you.”
Sukuna turns to Megumi fully. “You go to your closet...and you select, hm, that god-awful blue sweater for example because you want to tell the world you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back, no?” Megumi doesn’t dare reply.
“But what you don’t know is that your sweater is not just blue. Nor turquoise or lapis. It’s cerulean.” Sukuna circles Megumi like a great white. “And you’re also unaware that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. I think it was Yves Saint Laurent, wasn’t it, who showed cerulean military jackets?” One of the editors nods in confirmation.
“Cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. But then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled down into some tragic Casual Corner, where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin.” Sukuna stopped in front of Megumi, “What I’m saying is, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs.”
Sukuna looks at Megumi, dismissively. “It’s comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry, when in fact, you’re wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room, from a pile of stuff.”
Megumi wondered how painful it would feel if he just threw himself off the top of the building in that moment.
