Well, I did it then.

Last week I performed my first, and what I said would also be my last, stand up act. And truth be told, I had a wonderful time. 

Five minutes doesn't sound like a long time, but when you've only ever written one joke in your life (and that was when you were eight), then trust me, it's a long time. Especially when the only audience you've previously performed the set to is your wife.

So armed with thirty or so gags saved on my phone (good Lord, I can't remember them too), I made my way to Pun Run, a sweaty, nervous wreck.

The night is a triumph. Bec, who runs it, is lovely, and funny, and put me at ease. I'd be lying if I said I could remember clearly the acts who went before me (though, I remember they were funny!), through a mix of adrenaline and Heineken, but when my name was called I strolled up there and I gave it a bloody go.

I'm pretty certain people laughed, too. There were groans, sure. But that's the nature of the night. Ultimately, I had a blast, and a dry mouth on the last few jokes aside, I think I did ok. It helped that the spotlight meant I couldn't really see past the first row.

Thank you LOADS to Bec and Gav, the other comedians, who were all terrific (James Martin or @Pundamentalism was so funny at one point I genuinely fell off my chair), and all those who came and supported me and those that laughed. In the Venn diagram of the night, some of them were in that lovely central bit. It is appreciated.

Maybe it won't be the last time.
