How to implement Android Pull-to-Refresh

In Android applications such as Twitter (official app), when you encounter a ListView, you can pull it down (and it will bounce back when released) to refresh the content.

I wonder what is the best way, in your opinion, to implement that?

Some possibilities I could think of:

An item on top of the ListView – however I don’t think scrolling back to item…

개인적으로 macstories의 의견에 동의하는 편인데, 최초에 비판에 근거가 된 스마트폰의 충분히 강한 성능과 우수한 통신망이 정말 연결을 보증하는지 확신이 없기 때문이다. 메신저를 기획하면서 빠르고 안정적인 데이터 커넥션이라는게 단지 LTE, wi-fi의 연결 속도와 관련된 문제가 아니라는 걸 알았다.

Pull-to-refresh의 탄생설화와 관련된 내용을 듣다 보니 재미있는 부분을 발견했다. (위 링크의 팟캐스트에 있는 내용인데, 막귀라 잘못 들었을 수 있다.)

tweetie 1에서는 refresh button이 있었다.

tweetie 2에서 멀티 어카운트를 지원하면서 refresh button이 있던 자리를 빼앗겼다.

어디에 넣을까 고민하다가 tweet list에 넣는 것이 가장 말이 되는 것 같아서 pull-to-refresh를 넣었다.

그러니까, refresh 버튼을 어떻게 할까 고민하다가 답을 찾았다는 건데, 최근까지도 refresh button을 제공했던 instagram이 direct 기능을 제공하면서 pull-to-refresh 기능을 넣은 것과 이어지는 내용이라 재미가 있었다.

pull-to-refresh에 대한 논의는 refresh button이 모바일 기기에서 필요한가에 대한 논의로 가야 한다고 생각한다. 인스타그램의 kevin systrom이 pull-to-refresh에 대해 좀 과하다며, 이런 말을 했다는데

“I don’t believe there should be refresh buttons,”

I need to implement a pull-to-refresh for a project but I could not find a pull-to-refresh for a UITableView - only a UITableViewController.

Here is a my first go at the pull-to-refresh. It's a little rough right now but it gets the job done.
