This tight track once again gave us a crazy race, with more heartache for Porsche, spins, crashes, and a driver who has quietly brought himself right into the title fight!

When Mortara shone in the opening round at Diriyah, people wondered if he could be an outside contender for the title, given he has the really strong Mercedes powertrain under him. However, after that brilliant result, they haven’t really been able to repeat it, for one reason or another, but in one weekend alone, with a 3rd and a win, he has shot himself into a comfortable championship lead! In this race, he simply let those in front use their attack mode and fall behind him, then pulled away from them, showing great pace, so he could take attack mode, and stay in the lead to grab his 2nd win in Formula E! What makes him so good, is that he is calm during the race, he doesn’t get overly forceful or edgy, he just maximises what he can do, which could be crucial when there is a championship on the line! Now that he will be in Group 1 for qualifying, it may get much tougher for him, and I wouldn’t put him as favourite by any means, yet you cannot discount him if we get some crazy races down the line, before the season ends!

Nick Cassidy really showed everyone what he could do, when he took his maiden pole back at Rome. Sadly, it did not go as planned, as he spun at the first real corner, due to some brake issues, but we had at least seen the potential he had this year. A great start in Race 2, combined with better efficiency than those around him, allowed him to climb through the pack, to get on the podium. He may well get a win before this season is over!

Once again, that Nissan powertrain just cannot get anywhere near the efficiency of their contemporaries, which caused Rowland to drop back to 4th on the road, from his pole position, and is lucky to get on the podium. This isn’t a new problem for the team, so it is surprising that they are still not able to do anything about it!

You really have to feel for Porsche this weekend, after the agony of Race 1, they lost another podium in Race 2, due to another small technicality. The only solace, is that they keep a 4th place, and the car has clear speed, so they will be a team to watch out for in the coming rounds! Hopefully Wehrlein can regroup, and come back just as strong from this!

After a disappointing end to Race 1, the BMW duo managed to get both cars in the points at the end of Sunday. Given the speed they showed at points in the weekend, I imagine they are not happy with how things turned out. As they go into their last 6 races in the sport, can they manage to snatch another win, or will it be an underwhelming end to their campaign?

Lynn drove a solid race finishing where he began, as the Mahindra team tries to rebuild themselves towards a front running team again! Vergne will be rueing that spin midway through the race, which has cost him what could be important points, if he ends up missing out on the title by a small margin! This weekend has not gone that well for DS Techeetah, with 2 DNF’s between both cars. Evans has done well in both races, to recover from poor qualifying sessions, as he is in Group 1. He may only have got 6 points over the weekend, but when you see how close it is between quite a few drivers, every little helps!

Rast’s season is much like Mortara’s has been before this weekend, as he is just consistently getting points in the background, keeping himself in the conversation for the title. Frijns, Bird, and Vandoorne all gained positions from where they started, although they couldn’t quite reach the points. Mercedes have had it really hard again this weekend, with both drivers in Group 1, it has left them down on the grid, where they have been caught up in many incidents!

Buemi fell back just like his teammate did, although I am sure he was pushed down there by the chaos around him too! Di Grassi had a much different race on Sunday, as he was last of those who finished, barely on the lead lap! Meanwhile, Da Costa and Turvey were caught out by the challenges of this very small track in Mexico!

Another busy doubleheader weekend is in the books for Formula E, and has once again changed the complexion of this season completely, in the space of just 2 races! Will we see just as much change when they head to New York City?
