@seethem-dancingâ Youâd just be handling Lara as per usual just like in every tr game, you play as Lara. Kurtis would be an extra character put onto the screen that would otherwise complement the gameplay(aka Laraâs mechanics). Like using farsee to look for a clue from a hard to reach place that even Lara couldnât crawl into. Basically Kurtis would act as an âextended armâ for Lara with his supernatural powers and both benefit from each other whereby Lara could perform other feats of strength that would aid them both in advancing into further stages. Itâs just a matter of playing 1 character over the other and since it Tomb Raider, itâs pretty clear who the playerâs will get to play as :) Beside Kurtis was a nice complementary character to Lara and I donât see him as a helpful ai would hurt his overall character. Itâd be a nice dynamic to see them both in action on a single screen.

I get what you mean&it is good in concept. The reason why Iâm personally wary of it is because in practice - speaking from the place of my own, admittedly limited experience with gaming - it rarely benefits either character. Because the main player character can handle all the same challenges on their own&the sections where the additional player characterâs help is required are often contrived&added with the sole purpose of making the sidekick character useful (in most cases such sections couldâve easily been avoided altogether&the main character wouldâve benefited from acting independently). According to Richard Morton his original vision was to have Lara&Kurtis as separate player characters whose actions within the game-play wouldâve indirectly affected the other (i.e Kurtis was supposed to be opening doors for Lara with his telekinesis which she wouldâve later been able to enter through). That, to me, was an ideal scenario.
@psychedelicsaberâ @seethem-dancingâ What you two are describing really reminded me of in Prince of Persia Sands of Time. Occasionally Farah (not playable) will go through a crack the Prince is too big to fit through and pull a lever to open a gate for him (video). There is a section where youâre on opposite sides of a room and need to pull a series of levers to reach the bottom of the room. When itâs her turn to pull one thereâs a little cutscene of her doing it and then itâs back to the game and your turn (video).
Asides from these scripted parts, she doesnât really play a role in the gameplay. During fights she will stand on the sidelines and attack with her bow and arrow, but she is pretty useless and will even hit the Prince with them (he goes âOW!!â and she says âSorry!!â lmao). But her role is definitely âthe sidekickâ aiding the Prince.
In TR, for the parts you would need to use Kurtis it would probably be quite clear that nobody else could do it, be them a man or woman. But they would have to give Lara crucial actions only doable by her, or else thereâd be no reason youâd need to use her. They would need to handle it properly or else theyâd be reducing Lara to Farahâs sidekick role as âsheâs skinnier than him, she can enter smaller areas!â.
Definitely have only Lara can use certain weapons/equipment, but it would have to be more than that because Kurtis would obviously be capable of being able to fire a different type of gun, even if he doesnât. It would need to be something only she is capable of doing, something like she is more accurate at shooting, she can run faster, she is more intelligent so can solve a puzzle (but that makes no sense because the player would still be solving it? idk just throwing some ideas around, Iâm sure there are some obvious ones Iâm missing!!)
If they were going to put this sort of thing in a AOD sequel then it would be best if you could swap between the two characters (they actually did this in the GBA version of Sands of Time - video). That way itâs still single player and up to you to work out who has the skills you need, or maybe a level can be completed in two different ways depending on who you currently have selected? Something like a collapsing floor and Lara is fast enough to run over it, but Kurtis is slower [and heavier] so he would fall through and have to take an alternate route? Then youâd need to play the game twice to explore everything, so it would be like 2 games in 1.
I think that would be the best approach but they could just keep it like they did in AOD. Laraâs actions in her levels would affect Kurtis levels and vice versa, but them being playable is still confined to their individual levels and all the changes would only be conveyed through cutscenes/dialogue, and not real time in game.
Hi, I have a favor to ask you. Are you familiar in making newspaper headlines? I was thinking, since it's going to be AoD's 15th year anniversary next month, I thought I'd make an animation and was wondering if you could make like 2 pages of newspaper headline/article about the whole monstrum situation. It'll be for someone who's been sitting in the corner of some cafe *wink* *wink*
Hi! Thanks for thinking about me! To be honest I have zero experience at making newspaper headlines⌠I think the last time I did one was for school homework years ago⌠but if no one is willing to help you with this I can try.Â
In any case, I think there is a better way to do it, are you familiar with the TRAOD hidden/unused/deleted content? I mean not only concept art but also hidden audios. There is some content there that might help to construct a newspaper headlines about the Monstrum killings very easily, I guess. Even the intro of the game itself itâs very helpful because itâs a police report.
I like very much the format you suggest because also in Bloodline, which was gonna be Kurtisâ spin-off game, was constructed between headlines. Just to give you ideas.
I think @artofangelofdarkness and @hydraballista are more familiar with what you request, the first one being very familiar and used with TRAOD hidden/unused/deleted content, and the second one because sheâs working in a Bloodline comic.
In any case, I can try, but to be honest Iâm hellish busy lately with my job and I canât promise I can deliver it in a month. How much time I have for this specifically? Thanks again!

@adayka - I said in the very first post I made that Iâm not trying to tell people how to spend their money. And yeah I have definitely considered asking them directly.
@psychedelicsaber (spelled it right this time whoops haha) - I understand we have different opinions but I donât know how many more ways I can try to explain mine. They were asking for ÂŁ60,000 for the basic project, ÂŁ180,000 to have everybody else involved. They got ÂŁ70,000 and are saying theyâre able to have the extra people involved. Thatâs a ÂŁ50,000 difference in what they claimed was required. This part isnât your or my opinion, itâs fact.
Our interpretations of the ÂŁ50,000 discrepancy are where our opinions differ. I can see that youâre seeing it as âheâs sacrificing his own moneyâ, but Iâm seeing it as âwhy did they ask for ÂŁ180,000 if it was doable for ÂŁ70,000?â. If ÂŁ50,000 was required for the extra people and is currently being âgiven upâ to get them, then that means only ÂŁ20,000 is being used on the basic project. If only ÂŁ20,000 was needed for the basic project, why did they have ÂŁ60,000 as their basic goal?
The numbers just do not add up hence why I see it as greed. Iâm not asking you or anybody else to agree with me but I feel like I have explained my opinion well enough and provided enough unaccounted for money for the greed part to be understood by now. That is my purely interpretation of it and unless they are entirely transparent with the allocation of funds, neither of our opinions are ever more valid than the otherâs.

I agree especially when trying to explain in text because some people might interpret it differently than what you actually meant. And since english isnât even my first language, itâs challenging to maintain neutral without sounding like Iâm screaming in your face. Glad weâve settled our differences. Youâre okay in my book :)
As a Houston main, it's rare to find another underrated heister main. Also awesome drawings, dude!
HOUSTON. Hey there, little brother! :D Always damn good to see a Houston main, and thank you!
