The only truly effective way to avoid internalizing conspiracy theories and pseudoscience is to inoculate yourself against them by learning how to recognize them when you see them, which includes learning their history, their tropes, and their overall characteristics. It also includes learning information literacy and strengthening your critical thinking skills. Trying to avoid encountering them at all does nothing to inoculate you, which leaves you vulnerable to internalizing them from an unexpected source. You cannot give in to lazy/reactionary thinking on this one.

Tbh I do at the least respect the creationists for actually debating adults. Adults with relevant doctorates! They were awful people spreading propaganda but they actually went up against experts in the field they were arguing against. It had almost the air of a traveling carnival: they came into town, challenged the most famous biology professor at the local university, and went back on the rails to do it all over again. Being an Atheist on this website is like being a woman who doesn't wear makeup I stg. People will not stop negotiating with you. You say "I don't believe in God" and they say yeah! You can totally interpret religious texts to be progressive and support women, #girlpower! And you say no I'm not reinterpreting religious texts. I said I don't believe in God. And someone says fuck yeah!! You don't have to follow mainstream organized religion!! You can totally be pagan or Wiccan or just create your own system of spiritual belief! And you say no that's not what I said either. I said I don't believe in God. And people will say yeah!! Not all atheists are those mean superior cunts who actually don't believe in God for real, you can totally be an atheist who is wise enough to know we don't know everything and questions the existance of God while still of course agreeing that there COULD be a God! And you say no I don't think there maybe is a God or maybe isn't a God. I don't believe in God. And then people go 😨 and call you a bigot.
