Casually dropped in chat with some of my irl friends over the weekend that I have another name I use professionally & they acted like I'd just admitted to havinv a secret partner and family in the next town over!
Is it that unusual?
Made me feel a little nostalgic for the old internet and the possibilities that opened up for reinventing yourself and being a different shade of yourself across different platforms.
My family's always worked in creative spaces so the idea of pseudonyms and the like is something I've always grown up with!
Maybe it's also an immigrant culture thing? In my culture its very normal for part of your legal name to be a family or ancestral name that you as an individual never actually use or speak day to day.
The pseudonymes
We all were at a tchat before, free or not and we all knew this persons with a pseudo so long that you want to block them as soon. You know the kind of "youngmensearchingwomnfortalk" ? Yes, this kind. You certainly know that the conversation will start by a picture of his 3 pieces service, or a sentence that think will change something. Usually I have the kind of "Hey I hope you don't have too many messages but I hope you'll respond to me and that we can have a little conversation together" ...
No man cause you already send me this 4 times yesterday and I DIDN'T answer. And I will not answering more after the 5th time.
And I never saw someone reacting to a first message being a pic of the masculine attribute like "Oh this is so great ! I love it how are you ?" seriously...
Be original is okay, sure, but... too original is... how can I say this... do not be. Found a normal one, add numbers behind if you want but do not have something like "CuteMan395883729" not. Minitel is not there anymore, we are in 2025. Cute Man, come on, you could use something more original than that, there's so many "cute mens" on this tchat. Or the one using a character of a tv show they like but you know, I don't want to talk with Castle or Patrick Jane... Or anyone else from a tv show that I don't know.
I even talk with a guy that changed his identity one time, his name was not the one he gave me on tchat. I discovered his real name when I add him on snapchat (I should talk about snap in another post cause I have A LOT to say too).
Be original, please, but not too much, know the limit.
