David's faith in God
“The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? ” Psalm 27:1
David opens this Psalm 27 presenting his faith in God. God is light, salvation and stronghold in life. This is factual. No surprise in this. However, what surprises is how David personalizes God. He says "God is my light and my salvation" and "stronghold of my life". This shows the deep relationship David had with God. Obvious consequence of this is courage, courage to deal with grim situations in life while God being light, salvation and stronghold.
We need to take a lesson from this. We should be deep rooted in faith and build personal relationship with God to face the dark situations in life.God is our light, salvation and stronghold.
David's statement of faith
“The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? ” Psalm 27:1
This psalm talks about Jesus Christ as King of Glory. God not only created the world and everything in it but also sustaining it. Jesus with his own righteousness ascended to eternity. But, we cannot enter into eternity with our deeds as we are fallen in this world. We need to look at God to make us righteous through Him. Standards for becoming righteous - pure in heart (inward holiness - blameless thoughts, desires), clean hands (outward holiness - blameless actions), pure in worship, pure in speech. When we seek God, He will make us righteous. Open your rusty doors of heart to allow for King of Glory to come in.
Lord, give us this desire. By Your Spirit, cause us to seek You more than anything else. We praise You for all the blessings that You have lavished upon us through Your Son, the Good Shepherd. We praise You that You use the analogy of a loving Shepherd to describe the care that You give us. Help us, by Your Spirit, to live lives worthy of all of the blessings we have received. May You be glorified in our lives. In the name of our Good Shepherd, Your Son Jesus Christ, we pray these things, Amen.
