Day 3: Crossing the Threshold:
It was a joke when Gilbert first brought it up, the tradition of carrying your new bride across the threshold of the house. Since then, it had been a fight between them. Well, not a real fight, not with any malice, but in the way that couples play at fights, arguing back and forth for the joy of sharpening wit.
The side-effect of so much talking about it, though, meant that the idea had gotten into the back of their minds. They were both measuring each other up, both thinking about their chances at getting the other into their arms and over the threshold more quickly. All in all, Matthew was winning the hypothetical. They both knew that. But Gilbert had one thing Matthew didn't: hubris. So he dismissed their height difference and weight difference and...
well. That was a big part of the wrestling match that spontaneously broke out on their wedding night the moment they got home. The moment they both tries to lift each other and ended up in a pile, struggling, laughing, and looking nothing like newlyweds to people passing by, shouting nonsense insults at each other like it wasn't all foreplay.
