The Floating Temple: How to Lift a Seven Million Pound, 112-year-old Building The original structure of the Provo Tabernacle burned down in 2010. The LDS church is now restoring the building and creating a two story basement below it. In order to do this, the entire structure had to be secured and piles were driven 40 feet into the ground below. After the piles were in place, the ground below was excavated thus the structure appears to "float". I shot this video at the Provo City Center Temple groundbreaking.

The city and the church will negotiate to set the final purchase price. The church is breaking ground for the temple on May 12.

The Provo, Utah tabernacle was just announced to be restored and rebuilt as a LDS temple. This building suffered heavy damage due to a fire last year. The reason I'm posting this here is.....this building has always meant a lot to me. It's right next to my dad's work, and dang close to where my family lives. I've been in it several times, and have always been in awe of it's beauty. When I heard the news of the first I was shocked...and going home to see the burnt building was even worse. Over the past year there had been no news of restoring it, because of how heavily it had been damaged.  They ARE restoring it now. I can't get over this. I'm just sitting here grinning like an idiot, almost tearing up every time I think about it.
