#prototype tanks

Oh boy do I.

Those of you who've followed me for some time may already know what's coming, but it's necessary to dog on this braindead lump of German stupidity every chance I get.

My least favorite tank is the PzKpfw. VIII "Maus". It's a horribly designed, horribly executed piece of shit, made by goose-stepping, pill-popping shitheels to appease the ego of a genocidal madman.

It is every single flaw of 1940s german tank design, condensed into a single horrid vehicle, and held up without fail by the very worst people you know as evidence of Nazi "technological superiority"

Make no mistake when I unequivocally say:

There are! And they range from "bad" to "An abominable deathtrap"

Additionally, many superheavy tanks had two or more turrets, the most notable being the Soviet T-35 (pictured below), though other notable examples include the French FCM-F1 and several other soviet and japanese projects:

Additionally, many early tanks had multiple turrets, including the US M2 and M3, the German Neubaufahrzeug, as well as the UK's Medium Mk. III (clockwise, from top left):

This one is interesting, and took me quite a while to dig up. It's a modern scale model loosely based on concepts floated at the Soviet Kharkiv Design Bureau, reportedly based on the Swedish Strv. 103, in the late seventies.

While interesting-looking, it is nigh-impossible to discern whether this model matches the designers' original intention, as the notes on the discussions were quite limited, giving only ideas of a two-man turretless tank and simplistic sketches that resemble the later Obj. 490 more than this model.

Okay, so this is clearly some kind of amphibious tank, but it doesn't look quite like one of those converted LVTs...

This is a failed British prototype, using a purpose-built hull and the turret from a Covenanter. It never saw combat, but that should be counted as a blessing, seeing as it was a death trap. In the end, the project was abandoned as other amphibious tanks that actually worked were developed. Note:

Do you think it would have been effective or was it too late in the war? I recall Matilda's having excellent armor but poor firepower, and this would seem to add both more firepower and more turret armor?

Fascinating. From what I can find, these photographs are the last surviving documentation of a prototype Matilda upgrade that essentially saw the turret replaced with one out of a Cromwell, and the 2-pounder gun replaced with a 6-pounder.

I still find it somewhat over armored and undergunned, considering that it's still only a 57mm gun on a tank that, with the chassis modifications and Cromwell turret affixed,would have weighed nearly 28 tons.

It looks like it would flip over if they fired that gun while pointed straight forward. Looks like it would have to fire in reverse only like some sorta nazi archer
