For Yabr, Iām honestly toying with the idea that there are twenty-six sapient species of the Matoran Universe, one corresponding to each letter. The idea is that it was a way for the Great Beings to alphabetically organize the civilizations they created...
Of course, this does mean creative limits- For starters, if a letter is taken, I canāt use it. Iām also working with a set number, which incentivizes me to make all three species of Stelt into one race, comprised of three sub-species related to one another- Thereby giving myself more room.
On the other hand, this likely obligates me to fill in every letter, so maybe I shouldnāt... And by this logic, I guess this means that Iām going to have the Matoran go with a T-name, to tie into Toa and Turaga, as the original name Tohunga was meant to. Iām thinking of Tolenga- Does that sound decent, without appropriating the Maori language?
This way the Makuta can keep their M... This also means I have to change the name of the Tanzani, Skartekeās species, as well as the Blakul, Nocturnās species (because Bohrok). Iām kind of attached to the name Blakul, but Iām willing to change it to Grakul if need be. Iāve also opted to include the Zyglak, even though theyāre an accident, simply because itās fun- I guess they play a role akin to cancer in Mata Nuiās body?
And Iām including the Protocairns as theyāre listed on BS01 as a sapient species... Their backstory indicates theyāre a total accident of Energized Protodermis, but supposedly this story is more a fable than concretely-proven fact. The abilities of the Protocairns to contribute towards landmass sounds VERY useful for building the Matoran Universe and hiding its inner workings, and they probably play the role of platelets.
However, there is something existentially horrifying about the Protocairnsā existence if theyāre sapient... So then maybe they arenāt, and thus even if they are part of the Great Beingsā design and fulfill a certain purpose, maybe Iāll remove them from this list. Or keep them on by technicality. This logic could also apply to the Bohrok, who Iām rewriting to be cousins of the Matoran (or should I say Tolenga) species as a whole, and not just the Av- variant.
If so, then I guess I could keep the name Blakul for Nocturnās species... I am also considering making the Matoran/Tolenga the common ancestor of the Toa and Bohrok lines as well, to fit into how Makuta claims in MNOG that theyāre both creation and destruction- They donāt have destruction in their hearts because theyāre cousins to the Bohrok, but because they can become Bohrok...!
However, that seems existentially horrifying. I could just go with canonās route and say this only happens to dead Tolenga... Still morbid of course but not as much as someone having to accept their death? I donāt know. And with all of these complications, perhaps I should just ignore this alphabetical naming, what do you guys think? Is it more trouble than itās worth? Or a neatly poetic way to show the design and organization process of these creators, another trait demonstrating how these people were made.

Itās always rewarding to look back and see oneās impact on history. For example, did you know that Prototype hails from the same island as the protocairns? It is no coincidence. Indirectly and directly, my Dark Hunters have literally reshaped the world of the Matoran since time immemorial.
Two Toa once guarded an enclave of Ta-Matoran and Onu-Matoran on a small, volcanic isle. These Matoran had come to revere the magma beneath them, for it provided both rich, bountiful soil and raging danger to ward off enemies.
The Toa of Earth was a master of defense, equipped with a Kanohi Hau and broad, thick armor. He kept himself literally grounded, using the earth below him to withstand all measure of force, then unsteady his foes with a simple seismic blast.
The Toa of Fire was his equal and opposite, an eagerly aggressive fighter. He wore thin armor lined with spikes and blades. As he danced and spun on the battlefield, he projected flames and heat from his spiked armor in an unpredictable flurry.
This combination of tactics was enough to handily defeat most opponents. Against stronger challenges, though, the Toa had one more trick: the Toa of Fireās Mask of Fusion. They were capable of joining together to create a doubly powerful Toa ā not quite a Toa Kaita, but a Toa of Magma, able to unlock the furious thermal energies buried beneath their land.
It was this tactic that my Dark Hunters interrupted with the Spear of Fusion, transforming the Toa into Prototype: a creature comprised of thick, impenetrable armor, within which rages the fiery essence of magma. Anyone who canĀ break Prototypeās armor is soon rewarded by a spray of burning earth, making him a perfect sentinel for my headquarters.
In the absence of their Toa, the Matoran of the volcanic isle turned to other means of salvation. They located a bubbling pool of energized protodermis, not dissimilar to magma in its capacity to create and destroy. In an occult ritual, the Matoran hurled themselves in, and began to fuse. What emerged were the lava dragons known as protocairns. In the eons since, the protocairns have taken the fury of the volcano across the universe, even as far as Metru Nui.
What strange effectsĀ the single misfire of a stolen weapon can bring! It is curiosities like these that make me hunger for the Mask of Time. Imagine, if you will, the ripple effects I could bring about in such a short time...
