You know what my favorite part of Metalsmithing is? Each day is different. There is a process for everything. I don’t get bored and I am constantly challenged. There are days I feel like I succeed, and just when I think I “got it”, I make mistakes and sometimes even have to start over, costing me several hours or days of work. Here is a general process of what a metalsmithing week looks like for me... 🍁 First day is design, cutting and filing bezels, soldering and cleaning the copper after it’s been soldered. I also usually make my clasps this day to go with. 🍁 Second day is usually sawing the back plate around the bezels, filing, sanding, cleaning, drilling holes for bails and soldering a jump ring on. 🍁 Third day is cleaning the copper even further to a point of satisfaction and then setting the stone into the copper. Then I use my fun texturing tools like my chasing hammer! 🍁 Fourth day is aging the copper pendants, chain and clasps with liver of sulfur(smells like eggs 🤣), cleaning and coating with #Protectaclear which is a non-toxic and eco-friendly finish that works REALLY well. Super happy I started using that product. 🍁 Fifth day I put all the pieces together to create the beautiful handmade necklaces you see 🤗 Taking pictures, making listings, you get the picture. Several hours go into one piece. It’s amazing. I use probably 35 or more tools in the process of one piece. Yes, it’s a lot of work. Yes, it’s hard. I could easily go out and buy clasps, ear hooks, shapes instead of sawing them individually. But that would take the character out of it and it just wouldn’t mean as much to me 🤗 Anyway, there’s a little education for you on how I make things!! Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend ✌️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CFkLx61BqTM/?igshid=13l38ksii16pq
