Klance Theory
Keith is camera shy.
When Keith left in Season 4 he said it was a because he wants to find a solution to the war instead to please the public. But I think he also thought knew he wouldnât be able to ease the public. He knows he has terrible social skills and would be too blunt/harsh or would say the wrong thing an upset everyone including the other paladins. I think he is trying to change this after he yelled at Pidge in Season 1 but he doesn't have a some to help him. His lack of social skills has probably resulted in his fear of cameras because he knows that whatever he does can be played over and over to anybody. Need more evidence watch Keithâs Vlog.
During the game shoe episode, Keith doesn't hesitate when their choosing who to save while the rest look conflicted. There could be many reasons why Keith choose to say that he wouldn't want to be stuck with Lance forever; he could have wanted to keep his badass look for the public, he didn't want to stand out so he made fun of Lance instead of telling the truth, or he chose the response that has the least follow up questions.
Keith is also very afraid of rejection. You can see this throughout Voltron. His mother left him and his father died in a fire when he was very young. Although it was neither of their intentions to make Keith feel this way he still felt different than the kid he grew up with. James was constantly making him feel different. He constantly mentioned his parents and supported all his other classmates with compliments and showing empathy for them but shot down Keith he got a higher score in the video game. He also assumes people will reject him when he meets them as when he assumed Shiro was going to send him back to his foster home after he punched James.
He was also heartbroken when Fake Shiro left him during the Trails of Mamora. he acted differently after he found out that he was part Galra and looked like he wanted to curl up and cry whenever Allura looked at him. So maybe Keith was afraid of being rejected on camera by Lance. Need more evidence watch Keithâs Vlog.
Or he just wants to keep his private life from his public one, like many celebs. If one-day Klance becomes canon Keith would want to keep is private
And Finally, Keith is very emotional. He is emotional and he talks too much. 2 thing he was afraid of when he had to explain his reason. He was afraid he was going to go on a rant why lance deserves to get the Hell out of this shitshow and would end up crying because of how much Lance underestimates himself. Need more evidence to watch the end of Keithâs Vlog.
Also, I am convinced that Bob was judging them by playing a game show so he would have released them if Keith didn't have good intentions towards Lance.

âI think itâs dumb.â
âWell of course you would, mullet,â Lance retorted.
âIâm just saying, there are better things we could be doing,â Keith fumed.
Lance raised an eyebrow. âLike what?â
âHm, I donât know, maybe trying to find Lotor?â
âOkay, thatâs enough,â Shiro interrupted. âWe havenât found any trace of Lotor, so in the meantime, why not strengthen the coalition? It will be good for our allies to know more about their âdefenders of the universe.ââ
âExactly,â Lance said. âSo, Keith, get your butt in there and make a vlog!â
âI donât even know what that is.â
Lance groaned. âCome on, mullet, itâs not rocket science. Vlog. Video. Log,â he drew the words out, one at a time. âLike a journal, but as a video.â
âWhat am I supposed to say?â
âAnything you want,â Shiro said. âJust be careful not to give away sensitive information, in case these ever get into the wrong hands.â
âRight. Sounds easy,â Keith muttered under his breath. Why couldnât somebody else go first? That would make it easier. So far only Coran had done it, and Keith had learned from experience not to follow his example when it came to film making. But Pidge, Hunk, Allura, and Coran were all working on castle upgrades, and Lance and Shiro had a one-on-one training session planned. That left Keith to sit alone in what Coran had deemed âthe recording room,â talking about himself. Something heâd never been particularly good at.
âHey, man, take it easy,â Lance said. âNo need to cry over it.â
âIâm not,â Keith said, confused.
Lance groaned again. âIt was a joke.â
Of course it was a joke. Lance always made jokes. And they always flew right over Keithâs head.
âIâm not going to cry,â he said in frustration, after the door to the recording room had slid shut behind him. He sat down. Took a deep breath. Turned on the camera.
âIâm Keith, the pilot of the black lionâŚwhat should I say?â he asked. âIâm a paladin. I fly the black lion. I-I said that already, see thatâs why Iâm bad at this. What else am I supposed to tell you? Okay, um, I guess Iâm part GalraâŚâ
After stammering through an introduction, finding words seemed a little easier. Whenever they visited planets, people always seemed most interestedâor disgustedâto learn about his heritage, so he opted to talk about that for a little while, pulling out his knife to try and bring up the memories of the trials. Then he remembered what Shiro had said about sensitive information. Maybe talking about the Bladeâs secrets wasnât such a good idea.
Keith paused, staring down at the knife, at his reflection in the shiny, rare metal. âI guess being part Galra is a big deal. Might explain why I was never really good atâŚconnecting with people.â He thought back to the events on Arus, how Lance had tried to teach him some sort of team chant. He still thought it was dumb, not as dumb as this video, but still dumb enough. He said as much, and before he realized what he was doing, his face was heating up and he was raising his voice in anger. Why did he have to get angry so easily?
âI am so sorry,â Keith said, remembering all their allies would be watching this. He leaned back, closed his eyes to calm down. âI am so sorry, I guessâŚI have a bit of a temper, soâŚâ
Words were becoming hard again. Sticking to his heritage, Keith realized, might also not be the best idea. He didnât know enough to talk about it with the ease heâd like. And not knowing was making him angry. Not knowing where he came from. Not knowing where his mom went. Not knowing why she left.
Words were hard, but for some reason Keith couldnât seem to make them stop coming out his mouth. Emotions were rushing out, and he couldnât keep them bottled up anymore, but this wasnât the time or place. There was never a time or place for the leader of Voltron to break down.
Breathing was getting hard, too. He felt tears coming, sniffled once, and frantically thought of a way to cover this up. But it was too late. Heâd spilled his guts and now everyone was going to know, the team was going to know, the allied planets would know, the universe would know that Keith Kogane was just some scared little kid lost in space.
âI'mâIâm outta here! Get me outta here,â he muttered, getting to his feet. âI'mâIâm outta here!â
He couldnât do it. He couldnât pilot Black, he couldnât lead Voltron, even with Shiro back, hell, he couldnât even make a damn vlog, whatever the hell that was. It was frustration more than anything that made him yell, âI said I wouldnât cry!â
Keith stalked out of the recording room, the colours of the hallway swirling together as tears blurred his vision. It occurred to him that heâd left the camera on, but he didnât care. He just needed to be alone. He was already alone. He was always alone. He was a loner. Right now, he needed to be alone somewhere safe from discovery.
He stumbled into his bedroom. He was dizzy, he couldnât walk straight, he couldnât think straight. He didnât want to be here. He didnât want to be a leader. He didnât want to be a paladin. He just wanted to be home, alone in his cozy little desert shack, back when he liked being alone, when it was easy to pretend he didnât care about his parents, when he had no idea that he was an alien.
Keith was really crying now, hot, messy tears dripping down his face. The armor that encased his shaking body was too tight, too constricting. He fumbled to get it off, piece by piece, fingers slipping over the smooth surface as he trembled with sobs, until eventually he gave up and sank to the floor. He was all alone. Nobody wanted him. Nobody cared. Why would they? All heâd ever done was push them away.
He wasnât sure how long he stayed like that, crouched in the middle of his room with his head in his hands. Surely there were better things he could be doing right now. Like trying to find Lotor. Or training. He couldâve taken down the gladiator at least twice by now.
The sound of the door sliding open was barely audible. Just a gentle whoosh, a whoosh Keith had heard many times before. He didnât pay it any attention, even as someone walked into the room and knelt beside him. He felt a hand on his back, rubbing up and down, slow and gentle, heard soft words being murmured in his ear. He tried to focus on that.
âHey, Keith. Hey, itâs okay. Shhh, itâs okay, Keith, youâre alright.â
Keith swallowed hard and steeled himself to meet the kind pair of blue eyes that looked down at him.
âL-Lance?â
âYeah, buddy, itâs me,â Lance smiled worriedly. He brushed tear-soaked bangs from Keithâs face. âCan you tell me whatâs wrong?â
âIââ Keith froze. That was just the problem. He could never bring himself to open up. He never told anybody what was wrong. No matter how hard he tried, he couldnât seem to take down all the walls heâd spent years putting up.
âItâs okay,â Lance soothed. âYou can talk to me.â
âNo, I canât!â Keith cried, much louder than heâd meant to. Lance flinched. âCanât you see that I canât talk to you? I canât talk to anybody! Iâm no good at it. I canât connect with people, I canât open up. Nobody likes me, and I try so hard, but I canât make people like me because I always push them away and I donât mean to but it just happens because I donât know how to do it any different and then Iâm all alone but I donât want to be alone anymore but I can'tâŚI justâŚI canât.â
âKeith.â Lanceâs strong, steady hands found Keithâs shoulders. His voice was soft, caring. âWhat are you talking about, man? Youâre not alone. Iâm right here. Iâm always here for you.â
Keith wiped viciously at the tears stained on his cheeks. He didnât say anything. He didnât know what to say.
âLetâs get off the floor, huh?â Lance suggested. Keith nodded. Lance guided him to his feet and helped him take off the pieces of armor heâd missed. Keith tried to do it on his own, but he felt so clumsy and useless he ended up just standing there while Lance reduced him to the black bodysuit that was underneath all their armor.
Lance sat them both down on the edge of the bed, keeping an arm around Keithâs shoulders. He was still warm and a little bit sweaty from training, but Keith didnât care. It felt good, Keith realized. It felt good to be close to someone and have them look out for you.
âWe all care about you, Keith,â Lance said. âYou do know that, right?â
âIâŚâ Keith paused, âdonât know.â
âWell, we do. All of us. And yeah, okay, I guess your people skills could use a little work, but we know youâre trying. Youâre part of the team, Keith. Youâre family.â Lance squeezed his shoulder, smiling. Keith looked at him uncertainly. âWhat is it?â Lance asked.
âIâve never had that before,â Keith admitted.
âYouâd better get used to it,â Lance chimed. âBecause weâre not going anywhere. We love you, man.â
âI love you too,â Keith managed. He was tearing up again. Lance pulled him in for a hug, and Keith went with his instinct to hug him back. Things werenât great, but with Lance here, they were better. Speaking of whichâŚ
âHow did you know to come find me?â Keith asked.
Lance ducked his head. âI, uh, kinda saw your vlog. You left the camera running.â
âThe vlog,â Keith moaned. âI donât know what I was thinking, saying all that stuff. And now the universe is going to see it. What do I do, Lance?â
âDonât worry about it. It hasnât been sent anywhere yet, and Iâll bet thereâs a way we can delete it. And we could make a new one.â
âI donât think my second time around will be any better,â Keith frowned.
âWeâll do it together,â Lance grinned. âWeâll call it âGet to Know the Two Bravest Paladins of Voltron!â Razzle dazzle, right?â
âYeah,â Keith chuckled. âRazzle dazzle.â
