• so that said, you can have the basic premise below 😶‍🌫️

• samira is a VA doctor. she doesn’t massively enjoy it because she doesn’t get to treat regular people like she would at the pitt but she enjoys the variation of cases she gets and has the best satisfaction scores in pittsburgh which, usually coming from disgruntled vets missing a limb or two, is pretty difficult to achieve.

• emery is an active veteran waiting on deployment orders when she ‘accidentally’ takes samira’s coffee order about an hour before her appointment at the VA.

• she’s part of a specialised medical unit consisting of; jack abbot, john shen, parker ellis and nazely toomarian, all of whom she’d die for. this is their second tour as a unit.

• their upcoming tour is due to be about ten months or so, something which emery isn’t sure samira should wait around for but samira insists.

• most of their relationship from deployment onwards consists of face time and letters, something they both value more than they’re willing to let on

• the rest is spoilers 🤫

• edie (aka emergency department mohan-walsh) is a black labrador trained to predict and sooth panic attacks, something emery is prone to be vulnerable to in a big city after an incident on tour sends her home early.

• when she’s not wearing her harness, edie is a pretty regular dog who loves a cuddle (and stealing samira’s shoes)

• that said, while she’s only formally trained to recognise emery’s body language, she knows how to be soothing for samira too, sometimes just putting her head in samira’s lap and not getting up.

• norah and teddy come along years after emery’s discharge from the military. with her ptsd and everything that happens to her, she’s barely ready to be herself, let alone a mother to two children who won’t understand.

• samira doesn’t mind, she finds a bit more passion in her job after emery’s experiences. loving her wife is her only priority.

• samira/medical squad best friendism will be a go.
