I find that whole thing going on with star fox currently fascinating as it's like one of the few situations I've seen where literally everyone involved is to blame at least a little for the current state of affairs.
On the one hand, given that every time the Star Fox series has deviated even a little and tried new things, it got met with very loud 'That's not Star Fox!' cries and low sales, I do find it a little hard to begrudge Nintendo's seemingly current outlook of 'well I guess the people want 64 over and over'.
On the other hand however, for Nintendo's part, it's not like we're drowning in Star Fox games or on-rail shooters, so like they could just release some games that are incremental improvements and experiments rather than trying to swing for the fences with every new release and reinvent the gameplay of the franchise.
