#proship asks

I suppose I was sort of always pro-ship.

Proship used to be pro-ship, as in pro-[insert ship name here] to show what ships you liked. And on the opposite side of the coin, what ships you didn’t — anti-[insert ship name here].

It used to be in the 2000s only applied mostly to gay and queer ships because the world was so much more homophobic than it is now. If you wrote gay fic you might as well be confessing you were gay. Headcanoning characters as gay was frowned-upon, whereas nowadays gays fics are a dime a dozen. And because being LGBT+ stopped being The Worst thing, it opened the door for everything else to take its spot. Instead of “you think she’s gay, are YOU gay? You know that’s gross right?” now it’s “you ship x? You must be x/an x supporter/an x apologist! You know that’s gross right?” and while there is always the possibility that person COULD be into that irl, it’s also just as likely it’s something they just like to write or consume in fiction and have no desire for irl. Writing gay fic doesn’t make you any more gay if you’re not, well, gay. You feel?

OH- I remember thay being a thing where people would tag their Bl ships as "don't like don't read" and ship amv people would be like "pro-narusasu" I guess I missed where the whole thing just became "proship".

-I UNFORTUNATELY HAVE A LOT LMAO BUT THE ONES THAT COME TO MIND??? sheith and kaeluc

-mentor/apprentice

-incest (brothers only tho i dont like sister/brother it makes me uncomfy)

-massive height difference

8) a character you think did nothing wrong but fandom demonizes?

-theres a lot but the one that sticks to me is allura and shiro. nobody seems to bat a fuckin eye at lance or pidge or hunk or even keith if they mess up but SOMEHOW back then, those two were targeted for discourse. IT WAS RIDICULOUS.

10) what is your favorite “problematic” fandom?

-i dont really /have/ a favorite problematic fandom since i tend to jump around a lot;;;

12) have you ever had to leave a fandom because of all the antis in it?

-YES LMAO (specifically rwby and vld)

Other definitions for proship 

simply means anti-harassment, especially over fiction things

Supporter of freedom of fiction, doesn’t necessarily have to enjoy those things

Don’t like don’t read, dead dove; do not eat

Ship and let ship

(Some of these are combined and added to make other definitions too)

The definition the other anon gave was one definition (I think that one was made by antis actually but reclaimed by some pros) but by no mean the only def in use

Comship btw isn’t 100% interchangeable with proship, comship manly means you do enjoy problematic things in fiction, but some of Precious definitions for pros say you don’t have to enjoy yourself to Support fiction freedom, The new term was (I think) made in hope to help the people who are pro because they support fiction freedom rather than like the problematic stuff, be differentiated from the people who do like that stuff 

Some do have problematic selfships, I do myself, but it really depends one what your comfortable with in fiction or in your selfships. If something makes you uncomfortable in your selfship, but you still want to be with that f/o you should be allowed to change it. Personality I think it’s bluntly unfair to say who can and can’t selfship or how they chooses to do so. If you your aware enough to know that your relationship would be problematic outside of your selfship you responsible enough to consume it healthily.
