Bella's Artsy Fartsy Platform
Promotions and Publications have already been an all too usual endeavor for me, most probably ever since I discovered the magical capabilities of Photoshop. But making promos and advertisements for the Assembly during my first year as an AVP had given an added flair to this hobby-turned-skill: it gave me the idea on ideology, and on how art—my art, in that case—would have to reflect the ideology of the organization, and would have to give the public the image of the organization: political, notorious, and for lack of a better word, indie.
So here then, in my candidacy, I shall propose a three-point platform under the banner of “What’s our Political Color?” The realm of politics have given a color binary to detect one’s lean into an ideology (red for the left, blue for the right), and my platform proposes to get out that spectrum of colors from the plethora of ideologies that may stem out from the organization, while at the same time creating The Assembly’s own brand of ideological color, all of which achieved through the art pieces that I and my future members would be making.
In three points, here is an elaboration of said platform:
1.)Imagery
Imagery, in the context of my platform, would pertain to how the organization would appear to the people outside the political realm, and on how the art pieces the department produces would help build this image—an image of the notoriously political that haunts the masses as a specter—whilst appealing to the general masses, but without sacrificing ideology for the sake of mass consumption. The Department and I, if elected, would create advertisements and promotions that would appeal to the masses outside the organization (to those uneducated in the art of politics) but would very much retain the image and ideology of the organization. It’s comparable to killing two birds with one stone: get people to participate, and letting the organization’s ideology reach and branch out.
2.)Â Ideology
Ideology then, in connection to the first point, is basically what Assembly’s political color is, what color the organization would like to make public to the people. This may be a challenge, for the org itself is not in a homogenous state when it comes to political ideologies. But, on the chance that I will become elected, it would be my and my department’s duty to make our art reflect the stand and the belief of the organization, using color themes and art styles that seem fit to what the organization would want to present. There may also be a chance of the department working closely with ORA, as they are the ones who make the organization’s stand, and the department would be the one responsible in making that stand, that ideology, public.
3.)Â Efficiency
Lastly, there would be the issue of efficiency. My term as an AVP and a Promotions point-person of the Academics Department was marked with hassling events due to certain problems with dissemination and lack of time allotted for promo-making and promotions itself. There had also been issues of promos that weren’t as appealing as others. Because of this, I would then propose three things that may help solve this problem, if I become elected:
a.)Â All requests for promotional material should be passed to the department at least a week before the promotions for the said event are going to be held. This would then give avenue for the members of the department to create advertisements unique to the organization, whilst reflecting its stands and its ideologies, instead of making rushed work that may just fit into freakishly crappy templates due to the lack of time to put some thought and heart into the work.
b.)Â Members of the ProPub department would be disseminated to all other departments; it would already be a requirement for each department (in which promotions are deemed necessary) to have at least a member of the ProPub department pointing for them. This would help in the issue of efficiency, plus it would create easier access to the Propub members, what with the time constraint and time requirement for each promotion to be done. It would also help alleviate the pain of the ProPub members, for it lessens the chances of being flooded with work once the big guns of the events are let out. Â Promotional requests should first be sent to the point persons, and if point persons are unable to do the promos due to certain circumstances, it would be passed unto the larger department.
c.)Â New members of the Department would be required to undergo a talent test and should go for a crash course in their preferred medium of art (Photohop, Premier, ImageReady, Illustrator and etc) in order for the different promos to have a certain continuity and uniformity in quality.
If elected, all of these I would strive to complete, to bring out the ideological color of the organization and to keep its legacy, its image, through the department’s masterpieces.
