Sure can !

Shadow completely freaks out and freezes so then Amy freaks out wondering if he just doesn't want it. But Shadow wants it so bad his brain just kind of short-circuited. So when Amy's smile melts and she starts to put the ring away, Shadow grabs her hand and says an emphatic yes.

Proposing To The Sawyer Family

Word count: 0.6k A/N: tysm for requesting this! I had a ton of fun writing this :)

Bubba Sawyer

When you get on one knee and ask Bubba to be yours forever, you’re met with a dropped jaw and wide eyes. It takes him a few moments before it settles in, then Bubba excitedly squeals.

You take it as a yes, sliding the ring onto his meaty finger carefully. Bubba stares at his hand in a stupor, then back at you, then back at the ring. He’s yours! You’re his!

As you stand back up, Bubba pulls you into a suffocating hug. You can feel your soul escaping your body from his squeeze. He’s joyfully mumbling and cooing as he spins you around.

Ever since that day, Bubba views himself as a house husband and begins to do more domestic jobs around the house.

You always catch him admiring the ring you gave him, staring at his hands as he does tasks.

Chop Top Sawyer

When you get on your knee in front of Chop Top and ask him to spend the rest of your life with you, he takes it as a joke. He awkwardly laughs and looks around, trying to see if there was anybody joining in. It takes him a good long pause before it kicks in that it’s a serious proposal and drops dead serious, taken aback.

He laughs and slips back into his goofy mood, accepting your proposal and sticking out his finger, wiggling it expectantly.

You slip on the ring and Chop compares you two to a married musician couple. (A timely one being Sonny and Cher).

After the proposal, Chop constantly addresses you as his “wifey”, “hubby”, or “spousey”

Shows off the ring to everybody, multiple times a day, and shows you off. He retells the proposal story a much different way by pretending he was nonchalant and not a mess.

Nubbins Sawyer

When you get on one knee and ask Nubbins to be with you for the rest of your life, he’s the most casual of the brothers. He lets out a “heheh”, then frankly says okay.

You two take a picture to commemorate the event, flashing off Nubbins ring finger in the photo. (It looks like he’s flipping off the camera).

Nubbins takes a moment to admire the ring before biting it to see if the gemstone is real. You have to pull it out of his mouth and reassure him it is indeed genuine.

After the proposal, Nubbins begins taking even more secret photos of you whilst you’re occupied. He has a stash of photos just of you, little hearts drawn around you as you’re busy doing things.

Absolutely admires the ring but cannot wear it to save his life. He’s always losing it, having his brothers help him try and find it. It’s his daily mission to either not lose the ring or find it somewhere. Famous spots for the ring to be are his fur pelt bag, around the slaughterhouse, or a random victim's car after he hitchhikes.

Drayton Sawyer

When you get down on one knee and ask Drayton to be with you for the rest of your life, he’s the most flustered out of all of the brothers. Drayton falls silent and mutters a poor stuttering mess, trying to accept your proposal.

His acceptance is a mix of “of course”, “yes”, and “obviously” in one jumbled word. More like a “of yesviously”. It takes him a few tries before he gets a yes out and graciously accepts the ring.

He lets you slip it on his finger, ogling at its beauty. The more expensive the ring, the more flustered Drayton is at his acceptance. He’s a struggling businessman trying to make ends meet and you dropped his livelihood on a ring? It takes him by surprise that you showed immense love through money.

Before the Hundred Year War the Southern Water Tribe used to use betrothal necklaces but once the Fire Nation set its sights on wiping them out necklaces were seen as frivolous things

  instead they switched over to giving gifts that would be seen as useful in their everyday lives; ie specially designed cooking pots, boat oars, etc.

weapons become very common between warriors 

Hakoda actually proposed to Kya with a carefully carved hairpin because she always complained about her long hair getting in the way

(Kanna gave her necklace to Kya as a wedding gift because of how often her new daughter in law had admired it)

Sokka debates making a necklace for Zuko because with the Northern Water Tribe helping with Southern reconstruction they’ve reintroduced a number of traditions

But when he thinks about betrothal necklaces he thinks about his mom and Yue, two people who he lost and an irrational part of his mind says that giving a necklace to Zuko would cause him to leave too

So instead Sokka goes with the tradition he is familiar with and decides to create a knife

On a trip home Sokka tells his father about his plans and together they go out on a hunting trip, they bring back a narwhal-shark and Sokka uses the tusk for the blade

He wraps the hilt in an alternating pattern of deep crimson and navy blue to symbolize the joining of their two nations

To personalize it more for the two of them Sokka very carefully carves the shape of a dragon on one side and on the other side a wolf

Sokka shows it to Iroh when he asks for the mans blessing and Iroh nearly cries at the sight of it (he also rains praise on Sokka for his craftsmanship because it’s good but also because he can tell how nervous the younger man is)

Sokka proposes at sundown next to the turtleduck pond

Zuko definitely cries and almost sends them into the pond when he hugs Sokka as he says yes

Zuko proudly wears the blade at his hip and shows off the carved designs at every conceivable chance

I’m going to go with Catra, but Adora is the one that brings it up. This is slightly based off of what Noelle said in the stream, but most of it is just my personal headcanon.

They‘re at a wedding (maybe Glimmer‘s and Bow‘s?) and Adora would say something along the lines of “we should do that sometime” completely casually.

Catra immediately stops dead in her tracks and has trouble focusing on anything else for the rest of the evening, the sentence repeating in her head over and over.

At some point, she’s poking at her food, and Glimmer asks her what the poor cake has done to her, so she pulls her aside and tells her Adora basically said she wants to get married and now she’s freaking out a little.

She spends the next six months thinking about how and where she‘ll propose, because she definitely wants to do it on the “Free Etheria”-celebration that takes place every year on the day that they defeated Horde Prime. This is partially because that day just so happens to also be their anniversary, and partly because Adora won’t suspect anything if she dresses up for it.

She ends up planning the entire party at Bright Moon with the help of her friends because she needs it to be perfect, but she doesn’t tell Adora that she did, who thinks the fact that they have all of her favorite foods and that the theme fits her favorite colors is a complete coincidence.

Adora of course realizes that something’s up, because she hasn’t seen Catra this nervous in years, but Catra keeps quiet and tells her to just enjoy the party.

Eventually, Catra takes her aside and says she has something to tell her and they walk out into the garden.

When Catra starts saying how Adora is the greatest thing that ever happened to her Adora starts crying and tells her to not break up with her, which confuses Catra a lot, because why would that be the conclusion she comes to?

Well, turns out Adora has absolutely no idea what happens at a proposal since she’s never seen one (she just knew it involved rings and had something to do with marriage, so she assumed the couple throws rings at each other, obviously – which was also what Catra first assumed before Bow and Glimmer explained it to her).

She has, however, seen amicable breakups in public before that often start with something along the lines of “Listen, I love you, but...” so she thought that was what was going on.

Catra then promises that she’s not breaking up with her, quite the opposite actually, and asks her girlfriend to let her continue.

“Don’t say anything yet. Just... just listen, okay?”

Catra goes on for a while about how she knows she’s made mistakes and how she’s incredibly happy to have Adora in her life again at all, let alone dating her, and lists everything she loves about Adora.

When Catra takes Adora’s hands and kneels, her girlfriend is again extremely confused, because whatever it is her girlfriend is trying to say here (she still has absolutely no clue what’s going on), she shouldn’t be begging on her knees for it.

Catra tells her to just wait another moment and then she’ll see what this is about.

She also says something along the lines of “if you’re not ready yet, I understand, and if you never want to marry me that’s okay too because I‘m happy I get to be with you at all“ (despite Adora being the one that basically suggested marriage in the first place), and she basically ends with “if you do want to marry me eventually but aren’t ready yet I can just give the ring to you and you can propose whenever you’re ready.“

Adora is full-on sobbing because whatever she was expecting Catra was up to, it definitely wasn’t this, and she’s just so happy and of course she says yes.

After Sokka gives him his beautiful hand carved dagger as part of the Southern Water Tribe tradition Zuko wants to give him something in return

Similar to the Earth Kingdom and the Northern Water Tribe, the Fire Nation uses jewelry to propose and denote who has been engaged

The jewelry can differ depending on the couple but the piece always involves gold and rubies

Rings have become very common in the lower classes but more elaborate and generally larger pieces are expected in the upper echelons

When Zuko thinks of engagement gifts he thinks of the large, heavy, and honestly gaudy piece his mother was given. A large clunky gold necklace with large rubies and other gems that she only wore twice, once when it was given to her and the second for the official engagement portrait

Zuko members hearing her once mention that she was glad that since she was now part if the royal family she could switch out the necklace for one of the hair ornaments

Zuko wants to give Sokka something he would be happy to wear, the same way he’s happy to wear the blade at his hip

Considering Sokka’s interest in fashion Zuko knows he has to come up with something good which makes it even harder because he’s sat through several of Sokka’s lectures on properly accessorizing

It comes to him on one of the few days were he has a late start but Sokka, as ambassador, has an early one. Zuko is laying in bed as he watches his fiance get ready and can’t help but notice one of his favorite features of Sokka’s – his arms

(Even after nearly a decade of living in the Fire Nation, Sokka still struggles with the heat so all of his clothing (even his formal ones) is sleeveless to help him keep cool, which has the added benefit of putting his muscled arms on display)

(Sokka may catch Zuko staring which may cause Sokka to be late to his meeting but neither regret it)

Zuko decides to commission several armlets so that Sokka would have  options

The first and largest one is a dragon that will snake up his upper arm with ruby eyes; the next one is a simpler more traditional cuff that has boomerangs etched into the metal with the rubies interspersed between each one; another one is more like a chain, linked waves that crash around his bicep, the rubies again interspersed between each wave; the final one is similar to the first but instead resembles a wolf, it’s trailing tail wrapping around his arm, a single ruby dangling from the tip of it (Zuko asks for sapphires to be used for the wolf’s eyes)

About two months after Sokka’s initial proposal Zuko arranges for them to have a private dinner featuring a mix of Sokka’s favorite dishes and then afterwards convinces him to sneak out of the palace (it doesn’t take much to convince him as its practically a monthly habit “to keep their skills up”) and takes him to one of Sokka’s favorite spots near the top of the volcano’s edge where they can see all of Caldera lit up in the night

Zuko presents a beautiful gilded wooden case to Sokka and holds his breath while Sokka lifts the lid to reveal the armlets

Before Sokka can actually say anything Zuko finds himself quickly blurting out the history of the Fire Nation’s tradition of using jewelry to propose and he knows they’re already engaged and assuring him that he loves his narwhale-shark blade but he wanted Sokka to have something too that he can show off and Sokka doesn’t have to wear them if he doesn’t like them but Zuko had several different designs made so that he can make sure that they go with his different outfits  and really if Sokka doesn’t like them he’ll have new ones made 

Sokka stops the tirade of words by kissing Zuko and then slipping the dragon onto one arm and the wolf onto the other

Sokka starts to plan his outfits around which armlet he wants to wear

So while I was thinking up the Zukka and Bakoda proposals I got a little (a lot?) caught up and started thinking of the other characters and those posts are already so loooong so I didn’t include them but I really do like some of these ideas so now here’s a bonus post!

Iroh

Iroh is one of those lucky nobels where his arranged marriage is actually with a women he quite likes and it’s mutual as they have spent many years knowing of their arrangement so they agreed to try to at the very least be friends which worked and they eventually actually developed romantic feelings towards each other

So when it comes time to make the engagement official Iroh knows he’s gotta get something that she’ll actually like and wear proudly as wife of the Future Fire Lord

And long hair is a thing in the Fire Nation and Lily (who Iroh affectionately calls his Fire Lily) has really long hair that she likes to wear in elaborate braids with decorations like flowers and what not

So Iroh, newly knighted The Dragon of The West, decides this is the perfect thing to give her so he has a beautiful dragon hair pin commissioned that can be weaved in with her braid, the body of the dragon peeking out as one of the strands and the dragon’s face boldly resting at the top ruby eyes staring at all who see it

(Lu Ten thinks those are the eyes people mean when they say his mother has eyes in the back of her head)

Iroh has smaller pieces made as well, little golden flowers with tiny ruby dewdrops for when she does more elaborate elaborate styles where the dragon wouldn’t fit

Ty Lee and Mai

Ever the bold one, Ty Lee is the one to propose to Mai

Neither of them are big on jewelry so it’s takes nearly three straight days of bouncing ideas off of Zuko between meetings for her to come up with the perfect gift

Ty Lee commissions a simple pair of earrings

They’re sleek vibrant gold and are shaped like Mai’s favorite throwing knives, rubies embedded in the shapes hilts

Ty Lee proposes at the end of the Fire Lily Festival, pulling Mai to one of the smaller courtyards in the Palace, the same one where the two had first met as children

Mai can barely get any words out past the sudden swell of emotions and simply takes the earrings out Ty Lee’s hand and puts them on

Mai hopes the smile stretching her lips is enough; for Ty Lee who knows her girlfriend—now fiancée— so well it totally is

Mai doesn’t make as much of a moment when she gives her gift to Ty Lee

(Later after a night of drinking, Mai will admit to Zuko that it took everything not to just throw the gift and run struggling with the overwhelming emotions; Zuko quietly notes the way Mai idly plays with one of her earrings the entire time)

Mai has a choker made in the traditional Fire Nation Style (it’s one of the few types of jewelry Ty Lee will wear since it won’t get in the way of her gymnastics); a gold emblem designed to look like a circus tent hangs at the base of her throat the rubies dotting the top of the tent poles

Ty Lee changes the style of her tops to something with a lower neckline just to show off the necklace completely unbothered by the scandalized looks the older courtiers give her

Aang and Katara

The Air Nomads didn’t have marriages in the sense that the other nations do,there were commuted couples but no formal ceremonies and no engagement traditions at least none that Aang can recall

Katara is very supportive of Aang keeping to as many of his Air Nomad traditions as possible but Aang also knows that Katara has always dreamed of having a marriage like her parents and he wants to give that to her

He goes to Sokka and Hakoda and even Batoband Kanna to learn as much as he can about Southern Water Tribe marriage traditions as possible

That’s how Aang learns that betrothal necklaces haven’t been used in generations

He’s nervous about having to create something himself but he honestly feels good about not giving Katara another necklace considering how attached she is to her mother’s

Aang really latches on to the idea of the gift being useful and decides to create a new waterskin

Hakoda thankfully helps with procuring the materials; providing him with the tanned skin

Kanna watches over him as he sews the pouch together and embroiders a design to mark the pouch’s significance

He doesn’t posses the skills to create anything to elaborate but he creates a few bands that wraps around the pouch made up of the air nation and water nation symbols and after some thought and advice from Kanna he sews in the stylized image of a man Otter-Penguin as a reminder of the first day they met

When Aang looks at it all he can see are the imperfections noting how clear it is that he was an amateur; Kanna reassures him that it’s about the internation, the feelings put into each stitch that really matter anyone from the Southern Water Tribe would look at the waterskin and understand that it was an engagement gift

Aang and Katara share pretty much everything when they’re traveling which means keeping presents secret is basically impossible so Aang decides to not wait for any significant date; instead once he gets Kanna and Hakoda’s approval on his present he pulls Katara away from her latest project and takes her to the spot where she first showed him the otter-penguins

He had a whole speech planned out but he fumbles it after the first few words and starts rambling a bit as he tries to explain his feelings and desire to participate in some water tribe traditions since it wouldn’t be fair to her to only follow the air nations

Katara gets a little lost in all the words until Aang finally presents the waterskin to her and she understands immediately; she cuts off his rambling by tackling him to a hug, tears streaming down her face as she exclaims “ YES!”
