I donât believe in marriage since itâs a very old and archaic tradition. Whether youâre gay or straight, itâs just not for me. That said itâs NOT for everyone. I believe not everyone should get married just because it is the thing society wants you or expects you to do. Now, there are those who are married and have lasted long enough to make it work and thatâs good and Iâm not taking that away from anyone.
Iâm not an activist of any kind but I went to my first peace demonstration in Newport Beach in front of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church to support the repeal of Prop 8 (a proposition to ban same-sex marriage and would make the existing married gay couples prior to this null and void); mainly because I have older gay friends who have been in long term relationships that wanted the same rights as married couples.
I was pretty much a spectator and talked to some of the protestors who are willing to talk and not have a biased opinion and just listen to them. I enjoyed hearing their stories and experiences; being a 29 year old gay man, though Iâve had some life experiences, I canât really say that I can relate to what they are going through since I have not experienced being in a relationship and I guess Iâm just not the marriage kind of guy.Â
But I totally respect their passion for this cause and I truly support it and in my opinion I think just take the word âgayâ out and just say âmarriageâ for all. Marriage for 2 consenting adult humans who love and care for each other. I think if both parties find a common ground, there will be a chance for understanding and acceptance.
