Our non-verbal alter is 16 years old, and has been for a very long time...she has a lot of sadness surrounding not being able to express herself, or even communicate sometimes. She has only communicated with us in the headspace (and occasionally to our GF in sleep talking) through gestures, body language, and sometimes songs. Now she's felt comfortable chatting with people through gifs and emojis. Once she figured out she could create images to save herself some frustrations (the "I can't find the find the gif to explain" was the inspiration, because she'd get super frustrated when nothing fit what she was trying to communicate) she has gained so much more confidence. People give me crap about using GenArt for my alters, saying that "seeing myself isn't worth it" but sometimes it's not about "seeing myself" but rather the effects that come from it. I love Amber, our whole system does, for singlet to understand she is my little sister....I would do whatever I could (legally) to inspire her to be the person she can be. She's a good person so why wouldn't want to inspire that? Anyways, the above are local models which is a significant process (something she isn't good at), and below is Gemini, which was easy enough for her to use to create these images.

Sometimes it's not about art, it doesn't have to be about time/effort, or suffering, or building skill........ Sometimes it's about letting a 16 year old girl build a friend group that can understand her, sometimes it's about giving someone a little confidence. Sometimes it's about creating an accessibility for someone, and for those who struggle with communication or non-verbal communication, this is actually a really good tool.
