Project Rough Sea's - 1st Training Weekend South Downs
Friday 20th May 2011
I had received an application form from my social worker for a once in a lifetime experience that I could not refuse and new I had to do. It was a 3 week expedition to hike in Norway for a week and then to sail a tall ship for 2 weeks from Sweden to London. It wasn’t really something I thought I would do but after my experience from outward bound I new I would regret it if I didn’t - this expedition was through The British Exploring Society.
First I had to apply which I did to get through, the next stage was to go on two weekends and one week of training before being chosen to go on the expedition or not as there was limited spaces. The day arrived and I was rather nervous as I did not know anyone who was going. My transport had arrived to take me to Brighton where there was already two people in the car I didn’t know. I ended up getting to know a girl called Naomi really well while in the car.
We arrived rather early so we helped put up some more tents and got to know each other a little more - where we then found out we were all in different groups (was rather unhappy as now I didn’t know anyone in my group). I then got chatting to two more girls one named Amy and the other Harriet both really nice but again found out they both weren’t in my group! When everyone arrived we all had to go to the hall to meet the leaders and to talk about what was going to happen this weekend. We were then spilt up into our team (Team Viking) and went to our tent which are suppose to be a three man tent but only ended up sharing with another girl. The floor was rather lumpy even with the roll mats and sleeping bags - however they were all new so wasn’t complaining. It was rather noises to so find it hard to sleep on my first night!
