In our last newsletter, we announced the upcoming release of an article about Progressive Web Apps. Here it is! Today, the smArtapps team…
To be native, or not to be, that is the question
Knowing very little (read: zero) about app development, I’m looking into what kind of options I have for how to deliver a mobile, murder mystery experience. In particular, I wanted to look into PWAs (Progress Web Apps) as a potential option so I could leverage and build upon the coding knowledge I have rather than learning native app development from scratch.
However, there are a few wrinkles. For the mystery experience to work, a few features are necessary:
Needs to be location aware, potentially geofencing
Push notification capability
Potentially 3D or faux 3D capability for maps
Ability to take and upload photos
Unfortunately, from research and this comparison article, it looks like PWAs might not have the capabilities, especially the more advanced location features, that I need. Something to keep looking into as I figure out how to prototype my project and what I need to learn.
