Where is Markiplier? (A visual novel fan game)
It’s finally done! The finished version of Where is Markiplier? should now be available over on Game Jolt! (Link here, if Tumblr doesn’t throw it in the trash.)
“It seems like a golden opportunity, becoming an intern for what looks like it’s going to be Mark’s next big project. The catch? Mark’s not here, but his egos are more than ready to put you to work.
Now your internship is all about cleaning, helping the egos behind the scenes to create videos, taking care of the dogs, and generally surviving until the end of the week, but something else is going on here. Maybe.
In this visual novel with multiple endings, how you spend your week is up to you. Get on the egos’ good side, team up to search for clues about what has happened to Mark, or just try to make it to Friday. You won’t find romance here, and not a whole lot of horror (just some spooks here and there), but there might just be ice cream if you’re lucky. What happens in the end is your choice...Maybe?”
So yeah, if this seems interesting to you, maybe give it a go? And if you run into any issues or anything strange, please let me know by sending in an ask or submitting a screenshot and I’ll do the best I can to fix it. This is only the second game I’ve made in Ren’py, and a lot bigger/more complicated than the first one, so while I hope I’ve caught everything some things may have slipped through.
Going through and adding music and a couple of sfx to Where is Markiplier? + cleaning up some transitions and odds and ends here and there. Slowly getting there, but still not ready to commit to a date yet, so here’s a couple of screenshots instead.
Some early advice from the Host, which I am not following at all as I overthink how characters should show up on the screen and where they should be standing at any given moment. XD
Debugging/weeding out issues in Where is Markiplier? is taking a lot longer than I expected it to (especially the Jim route, not sure what’s going on there), so I’m not sure how much longer it will be before it’s ready to be released. I just really want to be thorough and pick up these issues now instead of when someone else finds them and gets confused by the story not going the way it should.
To make up for it, here’s a screenshot with about the same amount of context this moment has in the game: absolutely none.
Tried to do some pixel art--this is actually a zoomed in screenshot of what I did as the original wound up being SUPER tiny, mostly because I have no sense of scale. 😅 (I also remembered why I don’t draw legs and cropped it even further.)
I don’t think it’ll work for the idea I had in mind, but I still wanted to share.

I tried to draw Amy for the thing based off of this picture of her and now I feel like I owe her an apology... I don’t mind too much if Mark and his egos come out goofy-looking, but Amy is really pretty and I apparently don’t know how to draw that. 😭
