#project coffee

We had a week day breakfast at coffee shop and cafe Project Coffee in Bruntsfield.

Setting: A spacious and airy cafe in Bruntsfield, specialising in coffee, but with plenty more to offer. A great spot for people watching, either sitting indoors or out.

Service: As with any coffee shop on a week day morning, there was a little bit of a wait to order, but our drinks and food didn’t take too long to arrive.

What we ordered: Two full breakfasts (one meat and one veggie) and coffees.

Highlights: The breakfast portion sizes were very generous, with plenty of toast and extras. The veggie breakfast also had some interesting and unique additions, like a tasty veggie fritter.

Low points: Our beloved tattie scones a little overdone for our liking.

Another year and another E3 Expo is upon us, except this year I'm actually looking forward to it.

The reason being that this year Nintendo has some major news to give the world.

I am looking forward to the name and the specs of their new console.

I am an adult gamer, but truth be told, after killing my billionth zombie, my trillionth alien and letting off my zillionth ammo round I find that going down a nice grassy, sunny patch and playing some games "Nintendo style" is just what the doctor ordered.

Refreshes me and charges up these old batteries.

Many tween (and geezer) gamers are jaded, and they feel that if it doesn't bleed, they disregarded it.

But they forget.

They forget that WE all graduated at the university of Nintendo. It's a right of passage and speaking as a father I would hate it if my child's first gaming experience was a football player-like man sawing up another dude and having my whole screen bloodied up.

Yeah, good times.

Nintendo WILL always be around, I don't say this just as a fan of their games, but also as a parent. They are an institution.

The kind of games and experiences I get from them, I simply cannot achieve anywhere else.

So, in my mind I could care less what the other 2 have to say at E3, I've heard all that shit before.

News around the campfire is that the N is going to unveil their new console sometime around 2012.

As you can imagine this has the boys talking a lot bosh about SONY and Microsoft getting worried and showing their hand ahead of time (those varmints!) because since Nintendo is effectively doing what Microsoft did this generation, coming out the gates first, with the latest and greatest technology, they will effectively have the upper hand.

Now let me tell you, there is only a little problem with this line of think pardner....

Nintendo lives in Nintendo world.

Even if they had specs to rival NASA's computers these boys have tunnel vision.

All they see are Mario, Zelda and Metroid.

There is no doubt that the NEW Wii will be fabulous and that the new console will be absolutely marvelous, heck I'm positive even the CEO's of both SONY and Microsoft will own this console, because to them Nintendo is not a direct competitor. They are an anomaly.

Lets be honest, for all intents and purposes, in terms of sales the clear "winner" (if there is such a thing) would have been Nintendo, no?

Instead it is a system that registers with only it's die hard fan base.

So even if the Wii 2 where bringing holograms into your living room, unless they where somehow miraculously transformed from a family orientated company, into one that would allow Mario to carry a gun, I can say to you with a clear conscience that the other platforms have nothing to worry about and it alters their plans not one bit.

So with all this being said...LETS BRING ON THE NEW Wii!  I want to play Mario and Zelda at 1080p, the way it was meant to be played.
