Today, most of the photographs we take remain “immaterial” (i.e. digital images on a screen, rather than physical objects). Does this affect their emotional impact? For example, if you print out a hardcopy of a photo (or hang it on your dorm wall), does your relationship to the image change?

Viral Images: Who decides their meaning? (Prompt for 10/22)
By now, you have probably seen this photograph of Nancy Pelosi pointing at President Trump during a contentious cabinet meeting last week. Within a 24 hours, this image became a viral sensation--but not everyone agreed WHAT it “meant.” Trump originally tweeted it as proof that Pelosi had an "unhinged melt down”. But then Pelosi made the same photo her twitter header; and progressives hailed the image as “the latest iconic image of Washington’s most powerful woman telling an impetuous president exactly what is what.”
Keeping our class discussions and readings in mind, how would you interpret the wildly different meanings being attributed to the same photo? What about this particular image allowed it to become an almost instant meme?
