We all procrastinate to some degree in life; whether it is rearranging our messy cupboards, or rearranging our “messy” lives, we all do it. However, just because we do it doesn’t mean that we should do it or that we should accept it. When it comes to managing and alleviating our stress and anxiety, one of the greatest traps is thinking that if we ignore the issue it will go away somehow. From avoiding doing our taxes to the fear that we may be losing our connection and attraction towards our partner – we ignore the need to address the issue at our own peril. Part of the solution for avoidance is clearly to tackle the problem. Sometimes, all we need is a friend or family member to sit and chat to us while we tidy up the mess and take some first steps towards resolving the thing causing us such deep distress. I fully appreciate the difficulty in getting yourself motivated to face something that is causing you immense amounts of anxiety. However, I also know as much as you do that avoiding it is not the answer. Get help if you don't want to face it alone. Call a friend, see a counsellor, talk to a minister, talk to your boss, reach out for help because as soon as you make a dent in it your fear levels will begin to shift and lower and as you sense some progress you will build momentum and it will get sorted!
