A humble compendium of asexual dating advice
Happy asexual awareness week! Iâve been aware of (my) asexuality for 2.5 years now and am currently happily dating a couple very wonderful gentlemen. Iâve been asked for advice, and itâs also come up at ace meetups. While I canât speak for everyone, Iâm going to write what advice I would have liked to hear. Maybe youâll find it useful too. For seeking out potential partners, Iâm going to assume that you want to find a broad dating pool, and also that you want to avoid unnecessarily painful rejection. Some rejection is going to happen and in fact will always happen in any dating situation, of course. But while being ace is nothing to be ashamed of and isnât something terrible you have to âwarnâ a potential partner about, there are a lot of very nice people who are just incompatible with ace partners, and our goal is A) for you to be happy, and B) for you and them to realize this incompatibility as early on as possible.
My literature/English classes in high school did a lot of reading literary criticism, writing essays about books, etc., while giving me a spectacularly bad appreciation what the point was or why I should care. (Like many high school classes.) I mean, I do enjoy reading some classics - I liked reading The Great Gatsby, Moby Dick, Frankenstein, etc - but the whole literary criticism business seemed and still largely seems like total bullshit. I realized recently that I actually did walk away from those classes with a model of literature. This is because every time we were reading something, I was annoyed that we werenât learning how to write instead, so the lessons I gathered from all this analysis were about how to write famous [fiction] literature. I got something like this:

Choose a compelling subject or social issue / moral you want to tackle. You can have more than one, but having one central one seems popular.
Come up with a story - plot, characters, etc. - to illustrate it.
Artfully shroud that central issue in pretty metaphors.
You get points for a metaphor that can come up repeatedly and is aesthetically fitting and pleasing, but where itâs still difficult to decipher what itâs a metaphor for.
Repeat with the less central themes.
Draw the rest of the owl.
You should end up with a range of metaphors nested at different levels, from âobviousâ to âvery obscureâ.
The more the metaphors fit together and highlight interesting parts of the subject, the better.
Using a nonstandard format such that the upper-level story itself hard to decipher is an advanced move, but can have excellent results. (e.g. Beloved, The Sound and the Fury, House of Leaves.)
If youâre writing before, say, 1200, the important thing is having your work be one of the few that survives to the modern day. Being popular throughout time helps, but itâs basically a crapshoot. You can write nearly anything you want and people will care about it, if itâs old enough.
Iâm not saying this is a good or accurate understanding of literature, but itâs what I gathered in high school, and in some sense what my brain still believes. By this model, House of Leaves is one of the best works of literature ever created, so, bonus.
I am more than open to attempts to convince me that this is not how it works. :p Like, I think Iâve gathered some actual appreciation for analyzing media from Tumblr specifically and fan culture in general, which is probably much closer to what people actually get out of literary criticism. Or possibly theyâre doing something more like this, which I read and thought was super interesting and seemed possibly true, but did not fit into this model.

THE ASSOCIATION OF PEDAGOGIES AND SELECTED COVARIATES WITH PRE-SERVICE TEACHERSâ LEARNING OUTCOMES AND MOTIVATION IN PHYSICS LABORATORIES | Asian Journal of Advances in Research
The emphasis of this study was on the integration and implementation of generic components such as pedagogy, laboratory types, physics contents, processes skills, and the essence of science in college of teachers education physics laboratories. The study created a new learning model that directs the collection and integration of standardised components. Furthermore, directed exploration was split into three different methods. Furthermore, in physics laboratory work, an alternative method was used to pick and extract covariates and dependent variables. The study's aim was to look into the relationships between independent, selected covariates, and dependent variables. The research used a quasi-experimental approach in tandem design phase III. An association analysis is a form of research that looks into the relationship between two or more variables. The study subjects were chosen using convenience, purposive, and random sampling methods. The interaction analysis of variables indicates that the impact of procedural knowledge and academic performances had a more direct effect on conceptual knowledge due to the introduction of certain selected learning models and alternative incorporation of standardised components in the physics laboratory. Furthermore, procedural knowledge was directly influenced by the use of various pedagogies, conceptual knowledge, and academic success. Similarly, procedural understanding and practise of process skills in the physics lab had a direct impact on motivation. In general, the thesis investigates how an alternative approach to incorporating generic components used in physics laboratory sessions resulted in unique relationships between discrete, covariates, and dependent variables. As a result, when planning science/physics laboratory sessions, take into account the integration of generic components as well as the relationship between students' learning outcomes and motivation.
